I lost the top link pin while out mowing. I lifted the mower and it rocked back allowing the PTO shaft to hit the front edge of the deck. I compounded the error by then backing up forcing the shaft harder into the mower deck.

The plastic PTO shield tubes are completely toast. Likewise the shafts. The outer shaft appears fine, the inner shaft has about 15 degrees of twist about half way down.

The good news: Apparently no other damage.

The shafts are pinned to the u-joints, so it should be easy enough to replace those once I know what to buy. The plastic guard parts, I reckon I need some education on what to do there. Seems to be a few different styles. These are made by ANA Cardan best I can tell.

Initial questions: The shafting is triangle shafting. Is there just a couple of standard sizes? Being of Italian manufacture, might there be metric and imperial shaft sizes?

Can I use a different manufacturers plastic shield system?

I'll post pics in a few minutes. I hate typing from my phone, but the pictures are there. So, if you read this before pictures, drop back by in a few minutes.

It's AMA Cardan. A Italian manufacturer that distributes to all over the world.

Yes you can just replace the tubing and the plastic covers. The tube dimension is a standard deal. It's not something that you choose between metric or imperial. I can't help you with sources in the US, but I'm sure someone will help you with that.

Looks like Agrisupply.com has a complete shaft with shield for $140 plus $40 shipping. That is way cheaper than parts. This might have gotten real simple.

I hadn't considered a complete shaft since looking at local stores, shafts are $300 to $400. Why is this so much cheaper.

Check the HP ratings. The higher the HP, the more expensive it gets.

This is correct per the Carroni parts list. Hadn't thought of checking HP ratings.

If you have a driveline shop nearby, they can replace the tubing, or sell you what you need. Probably can supply new safety shield also. An internet search will find the dimensions so you can determine what size you need, and a phone call should get you pricing for the parts. Then you can decide whether to repair or replace.

This. I had a driveline issue and took my shaft to a local industrial store and they fixed me right up.

Most likely the Agri Supply complete shaft will be the most affordable choice as long as it is strong enough. If you can measure the distance from the outside of the cap to the opposite cap and the diameters of the cap I can look up what the HP rating of your shaft is. You have a Bondioli & Pavesi style of shaft. You would have to look close to see who made it so you can find a guard. Guards are not interchangable between brands.

IF you only have to replace half of that shaft, I doubt a piece to replace what you have, would be 20 bucks, or even less, here...

I buy what I need as I need it to replace what's bad.

The Caroni TL1900 flail is rated for a 30-60 HP tractor. I have a 48 hp tractor.
