I,ve been doing some remodeling in Our out buildings & the rear patio cover & noticed these these bee,s have been swarming me last few hot days . What i thought was damage from termites & carpenter ants ( which I also have both , but I can kill them ) now appear to be from these bee,s .

After looking them up to find out what they are I noticed there seems to be no real good way to kill them. the good Wasp spray just annoys them but wont kill them .

The only advice i,ve seen was to spray them with gas to kill them & treat the wood with deisel , which neither idea I care to do. Any others have a remedy that would be safer ?

I,ve also heard theres a powder You can shoot into the holes , but could take 6 months or better to work , not quite quick enough to suit me . The only good thing is the males dont sting just annoy the heck out of you . but the females that do the boring & lay the eggs will if iritated , Which I intend to do.

Any advice would be appreciated . Thanks Bob

I found this product this year and tried it a couple of weeks ago:
Farnam - Your partner in horse care

I sprayed it up in the holes and they would eventually come out and fall to the ground. I killed all that I found (they make a lot of noise flapping their wings). I don't know if they would have died on their own or not.

I need to go back and respray all of the holes and see if their are any left.

I used the Wasp/Hornet spray I had on hand and it seems to work. Not sure of the brand though. Whatever was at Lowes.

Later,
Dan

Thats odd , But thanks for the info . I used a whole large can of Eliminator brand wasp & hornet spray on about 20 of them yesterday Direct hits ,close up & They never even hit the ground. Just kept buzzing around Me. This stuff will knock down & kill entire wasp or hornets nests , but these things seem to be bullet proof  . Thanks again Dan . Bob

Look at the label to see what it kills. The only product I've found for carpenter bees so far is Green Light multi purpose dust. The active ingredient is deltamethrin and dimethlyl cyclopropanecarboxlate. It isn't an instant killer, either.

Some places carry a wasp spray that foams on contact. It kills wasps better than anything I've found, and it might possibly work on carpenter bees. I used it up on my wasps and didn't get to try it on the bees.

Some guys make a sport of shooting them with .22 bird shot shells.

I spray them with automotive Brake Clean. It's less than half the cost of wasp sprays and it kills them from the fumes or chemical.
Just be sure you have the little straw in the nozzle.

I use foaming wasp spray - but have also noticed there seem to be more of them this year than I have ever seen.
you can also "paint" your bare wood with a borax solution which will kill them when they're trying to bore into the boards.
