Where in the US are you? I understand that sealed cargo containers can get extremely hot in the sun. If you do get one, might want to cut a bunch of ventilation holes in it.

Also, what's the price range? Very basic pole barns of a size similar to a shipping container can be made for maybe $4-5k hired out (based on costs in my area), or even less if you build it yourself.

I think they start around $1,200 and up depending on size and condition

I think you'll find that they are getting more and more popular to use as work shops and/or storage buildings.

Don't own one but have had my share of dealing with them. Yep...they are HOT! If you have a choice of which one you get, try the doors out. They can be a bugger, like sprung etc. Also, take a strong flashlight inside and check all of the seams for rust marks. (Leaks) I would even go as far as get a "trusted" friend to shut the door behind you and check for light leaks in the welds. Remember, those things spend a great deal of time in salt air and on trucks in transport in possibly salty roads.

We have used them on the RR for toolhouses. They take those swing doors out and put in a sectional garage door. Also and exhust fan and lights.

They're not selling those things because they are in good shape.

I have bought three 20 footers , and am in the hill country also. I planted mine on the ground (no pad)Under some Oak Trees. They are shaded most all day and the temps have not been bad at all. Ditto on the doors-some of mine are very easy and some a bit of a pain. I did put a lot of termite treatment under the unit just in case. I feel thay are more secure than a pole barn, having recently having the barn burglerized. They just took sledges and nocked the doors in.

I bought a couple of 40 footers that were almost virgin- only one trip from Japan with electronics. They also have silver sides with no advertsing. They cost me $3200 each plus delivery of $150 each.

Hi
I just last week purchased a 40 footer $2,115.00 Delivered approx 48 miles. I purchased it from American steel cargo containers and didn't see it until it was delivered. so far I think I got a fair deal. the mfg date on the container was 1996. has a few nicks and some surface rust but all in all not in bad shape. Unless you have a big tractor you will want to sit it where it will live for awhile they weigh just over 8,000 pounds. Well thats my story
