Count the safety mistakes here:
Winch cable unhooked
Truck wheels not blocked
Operator under vehicle
Truck on ice, downhill slope

Potential: Truck slides down hill on ice, dropping vehicle on operator
Actual: No injuries, just dumb luck & stupid

I dont know if the cable is attached but it it is It would be safer than it just sitting up there. Id hope the driver had enough sense to cable it. Back in the mid eightes all the salvage yards used what called skid trucks to pick up cars. Basically a flatbed with a pto winch and on the back it had a 24 or 36 inch pipe split or 1/4th. THey just skidded them u p and over the tail of the bed. Often times the drivers would winch one half way up lik in the picture and get under and pull parts.


What he was doing in that pic was probably had it hooked in the rear frame pull holes and then sesawed it on the rollbacks bed to get his tow chains started on front hooking points. My friend with the roll off service here does this often the winch stays hooked on the rear then he gets under it and attaches the mid or front safety chains. Then when the car is all the way up the chains are in place.
