Been with State Farm for 53 years.....accident free for that time too. BUT 6 months ago did a stupid thing in a car wash and it resulted in a claim to repair the car wash. I had minor black fender trim messed up, and I fixed my self. The claim was about $1000.

As with any insurance...that has a premium impact....but the 53 years with them means...NOTHING. So I've decided I will shop for insurance. Told them that too. They said be sure...any insurance is underwrited so you don't have large increases in later years. Not sure I understand that.

SO....what insurance is everyone using?

We use mutuals. They are policyholder owned. We were with nationwide switched a couple years ago to amica. amica is the top rated company for service.

I have yet to figure out pricing on insurance...Have never filed a homeowner's claim in 35 years of home ownership but I'm sure if I ever did my premiums would sky-rocket or I would be cancelled. Same for auto...2 claims in the past 40 years (neither of which amounted to more than my annual premiums). I see various ads on tv promising "accident forgiveness" but the "fine print" says you have to pay extra for that. Have to wonder what the costs would be if they didn't spend so much $$$ advertising/sponsoring sporting venues...to have that fierce competition suggests it is a very profitable enterprise and your loyalty means nothing. And btw, they all share information now...your "penalty" with one company will carry over to anybody else you choose.

After 40 years with Allstate, we went with an independent agent. We're with Safeco insurance now; lots more insurance for less. Have had two claims in the last two years, both less than $1000...our fault, and no increase in premiums. We have both our home and cars with them.

Insurance seems to be a game with no rhyme or reason on prices. Every couple years it's worth getting new quotes. That was how I ended up back at Allstate after floating around for years, they gave the best price for my household. It's probably time for me to see how they fair against others. There are websites that you punch in your info and people will email you with prices. Insurance.com is one of them. Also good to note that combining auto and house insurance can get you a better bottom line price.

Erie ins, but i need to shop it around again. I've found any ins will go low to get you, then keep jacking up the rates over time. Over the yrs I've switched to geico and saved, to state farm and saved, to erie and saved.

Another chime in for Auto Owners... house and vehicle insurance. They don't sell much coverage down south in the hurricane/tornado areas and their rates stay fairly reasonable. Mostly up here in the MidWest where they are headquartered.

We have been using Kentucky Farm Bureau since moving here eight years ago. No claims yet but at least they do not resort to stupid commercials. Dumb and dumber comes to mind. I used to use Farm Family out of Albany, NY but they don't sell here. Only issue with them is that while they insured my house, farm, operations, ag equipment and my dually since it was a farm (and personal) vehicle, I had to get another company for my wife's SUV

We have both with Farm Bureau. Any time we've had a claim I've had to haggle with them but rates have stayed fairly consistent.

I shopped them around a couple years back and nobody came close.

Had Allstate for many year and they just kept going up and up. I think we saved 600 in the switch.
