Kioti 5010 HST Cab
Hello all,
I am a owner of recently purchased, used, Kioti NX5010 HST Cab. The tractor has 850 hrs. on it. In the owners manual, maintenance table, it scheduled engine valve clearance check at 800 hrs.
I checked the service records and found that this had not yet been done. The dealer was not aware of the requirement and said that procedure is not necessary. I checked with the Kioti headquarters and they told me that it should be done. Have any of you Kioti owners had this procedure done with your tractor of like model? Thank you for any sharing on my concern.

I don't expect that my manual says any different, but...

It depends on whether you want to be able to show you've "gone by the book" or not.

Neighbor has a small Kubota with a good 4k hours on it (hour meter stopped a long time ago) and he's never adjusted the valves.

I will be adjusting the valves on my Kubota when I do it's next major service at 1,800 hours. I've never adjusted them: bought it with 748 hours, in which case it's unlikely that the previous owner (it was a dealer trade-in) adjusted them.

With about 400 hours on my NX I've still got a while to go before contemplating adjusting its valves.

Hello DieselBound,
Thank you for your reply. In my dreams at three in the morning, I have visions of the factory discovering that the torque wrenches used in the assembly were out of spec, so they decided to have the valves checked out at 800 hours. I hear good logic from both side of wisdom in regards to the maintenance schedule as printed by Kioti. The Kioti headquarters recommends the procedure, but will not say why except that is what the manual states. My dealer said it would take eight hours to do the job, and is reluctant to do it until further communications with Kioti headquarters. Strange!

Any engine not designed with hydraulic lash adjusters needs periodic lash adjustment to compensate for valve system wear.

The interval for this adjustment is based on the manufacturers experience gained during development of the engine. Any adjustments performed during the emissions qualification durability cycle must, by law, be included in the service requirements published by the manufacturer.

You would be foolish to ignore the manufacturers recommend valve lash service recommendation.

Hello Finn1, I agree with you. I was surprised to find this in the owners manual, maintenance schedule. I presumed all these modern engines would have hydraulic lifters. About the type of valve action, lacking a service manual at this time, I do not know what type of lifting action is in this engine. I intend to get to the bottom of this tomorrow between the dealer and tractor mfg.

I appreciate your input.

Industrial engines historically have stuck with mechanical lash adjusters, although that is slowly changing. I heard that the Cummins B series finally made the leap, after some thirty years in production.
