So which is new...tiller or hog?? DOesn't really matter, they both get ya seat time. I would love to find a decent 2000 locally. I have a friend with about 3 acres...I think that would be perfect for him. Maybe I should sell him my 1500 and then look for a 2000 later for me!?

8ball,

Just a suggestion and from my own personal experience...

If you think that the ground hasn't been worked in a very long time I would proceed cautiously in low gear and most certainly in the first speed PTO selection. Although the tiller WILL perform excellent in turning the earth, it will also unearth discarded and buried treasures like car parts, batteries, wire, chain, cable and anything else hidden or used as dirty fill.

Before I purchased my property it was the neighborhood dumping grounds, and four years later I am still pulling up man made objects not conducive to good, clean garden or lawn soil. Only last month did I pull up and chop to bits, a rather large 'boom box' radio from yet another covered up burn pile.

Good luck and have fun.

How close is "local"? We can do far better than decent.

if you look at the aerial map i put on here the area that i wrote food plot has been worked up within the past 4 -5 years so that area should be ok. just to the west of the white pines i planted i plan to till that up and plant quail habitat.. a mixture of Little Bluestem, Side Oats Gramma and Canadian Wild Rye and 8 different forbs like Illinois Bundleflower, Partridge Pea, etc. etc.
I am gonna also plant egytian wheat as a screen from the roadway for the foodplot, and along the fence row on my southern property line. further west where the old house i.. hoping its torn down by the time i get down there.. my demo guy is suposed to level the house.. i gotta burn then he will come and fill up the hole. then i will go thru and level/till it all up and reseed with grass seed.

I looked at your sight. That 2000 2wd looks nice. I will mention next time I see him. I guess I got lucky and found a 1500 about 10 miles from me for about $1500 dollors as I recall. It has some surface rust/wear but ran and still runs great. There great little tractors to be sure.

well this weekend came and went... spent a lot of seat time in the yammy and my other jd mowers. didnt use the tiller... gonna have to pick up some longer lower lift arms so i can make a pto shaft. the tiller sits way to close to even have a pto shaft work at this time. did get a lot of mowing done. got my pond treated for pond scum. also used my cultivator to work up the ground some after mowing for my food plots. did accomplish all my goals but there is always next weekend.
