cant lock doors in silverado?

hi I have a 99 Silverado z71 and all the sudden I pulled up at home and took the key out of the ignition and opened the door to get out and the security light usually flashes any way but this time there was a dinging noise in sequence with the flashing of the security light and when I mashed the door lock button the locked and immediately unlocked like if the key was still in the ignition. what could cause this? ( I cranked it up and shut back off and it still did this, never encountered a problem like this before... if you can help or give any ideas id sure appreciate it!!) THanks!!!!!!:banghead:

For some reason the truck thinks that the key is still in the ignition and wil not allow the doors to lock.
Bad ignition switch maybe? One thing you might try is to disconnect the battery, wait a few seconds then reconnct it, that might reset the computer and fix the problem (maybe).
Doing this will also reset all the stations that you have programmed into the radio.

I have never seen this problem. But the first thing I would try is a shot of WD 40 in the key switch to see if something there is stuck because it still thinks the key is in the ignition.

That is also the first thing I would try. Likely some dirt in the key path to the sensor that thinks the key is still in the switch. Insert and remove the key several times while applying WD 40. If it starts to work correctly after that, a shot of silicone lubricant would help. Check they key fob to make sure the unlock button isn't stuck down also.

If you decide to disconnect the battery, first unlock the theft lock of the radio if you have enabled it.

Make sure all the doors are completely shut. Mine won't lock if a door is ajar.

ok im going to try that first thanks! I hope it works hate to buy an ignition for this thing im sure its high. I think it has that little transistor in the key too..
