Can't get into 4WD on CK30

I can't seem to get my 4WD activated on my CK30. I normally keep it in 4WD unless I drive it down the road. Which is what I did to help friend out. Did not try to put it back in 4WD until the other day. I just would not go. Ended up ripping the whole nob off. there is play in the links and shot some wd40. I am on level ground, and tried going back and forth..

any help would be great.

Do you have a loader? If so, use it to lift the front end off the ground and it should slide right in.

I don't think that the transfer case is synchronized very well and sometimes it won't go in easily when at a stop. I frequently engage the FWD while moving.

on my ck20 i some time have to back up gradually and push it into gear while i am backing up. It wont grind but you can feel the gears mesh. This is common on all 4WD even some vehicles like my truck.

What the others mentioned does work if your 4wd shift linkage is free. I plowed snow last winter with my CK30hst and come Spring, mine wouldn't shift either. I lubed the linkage and still nothing. Take a good look at where the shift rod goes into the trans case. If you jiggle the linkage, I'll bet it's not moving. Spray the WD between the rod and case flange, work the lever a bit and do it again. After several applications, mine worked easy again.

I used to have a heck of time getting my CK30 into 4wd even after soaking down all the linkages with the "magic" WD40! Then one day I decided to take apart the 4wd linkage, cleaned all the excess paint off all contact points and put real grease on the pivot and contact points, now it engages real easy and smooth, coarse I still have to raise the front to disengage it thou.

I agree with Highgear that for this type of application, WD40 does suck. It may loosen it up but won't last long and you will have the same problem. Real grease does work the best. Dirthauler has the right fix if you have time to disassemble. I've done this to several of the linkages on the tractor and no more problems. As he said, get rid of the paint then grease. If you only have time to spray, I have used a spray lithium lube. Works pretty good but nothing can beat a good cleaning and grease job.

WD40 as I've known it, is more of a degreaser than it is a lubricator. Use it to free something up, if it will work, then lubricate it well with a specific lube to hopefully make it last. How can a product claim to lube and degrease if it is meant to dissolve the existing grease?

After it gets degreased, I spray with chain lub from my motorcycle days.
