Hi,
I just replaced the fuel line from tank to primer pump and the water separator. Prior to putting the water separator on I filled it with diesel. When pumping the primer I cannot get fuel at the pump bleed valve from the tank, or at the fuel injection pump from the water seperator filter. My neighbor thinks I may have air on both sides of the primer pump. I tried closing the inlet valve from the tank and opening the bleed valve at the fuel injection pump thinking I could get deisel from the water seperator to the injection pump. That did not work. I could not get deisel to the bleed valve on the seperator with the fuel injection pump open or closed. I believe my primer pump works as I used it successfully a few days prior when learning I needed a new fuel line. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your time.

When I encounter a fuel bleeding problem I just crank my air compressor and stick blower nozzle in fuel tank neck blocking hole with a shop towel CAREFULLY giving ""short bursts of air"" to force fuel through lines/filters to injection pump. Works for me every time.

Thansis to both of you. My solenoid fuse is good. My arm isn't long enough to turn the key and listen for the solenoid to click. I am not grasping how that can affect me bleeding the fuel lines as the solenoid is at the injection pump and as I understand it not involved with bleeding.

Tx Jim, when using compressed air at the fill spout on the tank do I need to open any bleed valves to allow the air trapped in the fuel lines to escape? I will try this tomorrow.

Thanks again.

I assume when you changed the fuel line that you had a good flow of fuel from the tank? If so, then I would bet there is some debris in the primer pump causing the problem. If you use compressed air in the tank, open the bleed screw at the primer until you see some fuel there. Then close that and loosen the line at the pump coming from the filter. apply more air till you get fuel flow there. Then tighten that fitting and loosen a couple of the high pressure lines going to the injectors. Crank the engine until fuel comes from those lines. tighten those and start the engine.

Thanks I will probably just take the pump apart tomorrow. I think you just unscrew the ring at the top and it comes out.

I see jd110 has already answered your question. Anytime one is trying to bleed air from diesel system there has to be "an opening" for air to escape so fuel can displace the air.

Got it fixed. I think the biggest aid was filling the tank up all the way. I had only put 5 gals in there before because I didn't want to have to drain it again if one of my repairs did not work. At the end of the video JD5210 posted the guy said it would prime easier if full. He was right in my case. Thanks to all for your responses.
