Tractor
MF GC1715
Hello to all you tractor owners out there. I just bought my first tractor and started mowing two different properties, mine and my daughters. My property has a new lawn and an older section with weeds and grass that is higher than my daughters. I went to adjust the height of the mower on my new MF GC1715. I was able to adjust the know from 1 to 4 fairly easy. After cutting for a while I tried to set the mower back to 1 but the knob is locked. I tried everything possible including raising the deck to maximum height. The knob will not budge. Anyone else have this problem? Am I doing something wrong? I called the dealer and he wants me to trailer the tractor to him, a good 45 minutes away plus I don't have a trailer. Hope someone has an answer!

:welcome:
To TBN Joseph. Sorry to hear about your problem.

Congrats on the new tractor. Sorry that I don't know anything about that tractor but I am sure someone will be along shortly who does.

Is there excess tension on linkage from the three point hydraulics...

There is a set of linkages (steel bars) that connect mower body to chassis of tractor, these control height of mow deck, the mow deck is raised and lowered by using the three point hitch lever, yes it controls lift/lower of 3PH (on rear) as well as mow deck, if you have 3PH lever raises so pressure is exerted on support system (linkage) it may be in bind so you can not turn the adjust knob...Try Raising or lowering 3PH lever to see if releases pressure on control knob...

May want to look at section 3.13 in Operators Manual...

Do you have a standard mowing deck or the drive over deck? The detents have always been stiff on my mowing height adjustment. Since I have the drive over deck with the heavy-duty casters, I use those for mowing height and have the tractor adjustment set for lowest cut, so that the casters take the weight before the mower lift bottoms out.

The best way I have found to make it easier to adjust is: apply a thin spray/drip of lubricant down the knob to eliminate any binding (it's an exposed linkage), then raise the 3-point and mow linkage all the way up until the hydro pitch changes, and then grip the knob with one hand while gripping that hand with my second hand and then turning in the appropriate direction. It provides you more oomph and a bit more control over which of the 5 (or 6) positions it rests in.

You only need to use the tractor adjustment knob if you have the standard deck with anti-scalp wheels and just bottom it out if you have the drive-over with heavy casters.

I have the drive over deck. Everything they tell you about how easy it is to detach the front loader and the mower deck just isn't so, at least not on mine. I just tried to take the front loader off, followed step by step instructions and about 5 videos, I could not get front loader to detach. It simply would not lift from the grey bracket near the big pins. Jumping on the bucket did nothing. Tried everything on the mower adjustment knob...won't budge.

IF your THREE POINT HITCH is in down position now it is not going to move... Start tractor, bring three point hitch lever FULL UP and HOLD IT UP, Reach down (with left hand) and pull on knob and turn it counterclockwise....

With three point full down it seems to put knob in bind, with three point hitch full up it seems to release bind, knob is very stiff to turn....

Did that per dealers instructions. They can't figure it out and neither can I.

Might want to enquire about some warranty work, there is no reason knob to be "locked" and don't understand not being able to remove front end loader, there is nothing to stop it from coming off if procedure is followed.... Other than damage to chassis the supports lower assembly...
