First time user here, hope im in the right forum for this. Purchased an old military PTO winch some time ago with the intentions of attaching it to my skidsteer. The time is right, so I've started the conversion to hydraulic. Its made by Allstate which was a re-branded Braden winch. I've searched high and low on the net and just cannot determine the model and specs on this winch. It looks identical to several of the Brayden winches so i'm hopeful someone might recognize it. I'm trying to size the hydraulic motor and really need to know how much pull this winch can take so i can use all of its capacity. Plenty of hydraulics to power this thing, 3300 psi and 23 GPM available. Obviously its in need of repair but nothing i cant handle. It came from Fort Huachuca down here in southern AZ, its a beast!! Weighs about 150 lbs with no motor or cable. I'm hoping its in the 20k range. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

You might find the specs in a reproduction Sears and Robuck catalog. They were very plentiful a while back.

I have a Braden winch on a home made logging unit
similar to this and added chain drive for a hydraulic motor.
I use the circuit for the grapple forks open / close.
Pump capacity will limit your winch capacity,
I also have mine set up with PTO shaft.
Rated at 10,000 lbs.
PTO works best.
I believe mine came off of a late 40's early 50's

I wonder - are you in a position where you could check with the maintenance people on an Army base. They might recognize the unit and know its capacities.

I have one that's very similar too, it also came off a military truck.

The best I found out when I did quite a bit of research on it, was they were rated 9,000 although they "may" be under rated a small amount.

I also have a PTO 20 or 25,000 pound rated winch, (I forget which) it's HUGE compared to these...

Unfortunately I purchased it from the guy who got it from a guy on the base. I'm good with a 9 or 10k hoist, was just hoping it was a little bigger. Comparing it to my trailer winch which is modern and rated at 9000lb, this old Allstate dwarfs it.

Most of the modern winches have plantares in them, and it allows a much more compact size...

It also allows them to run faster too, as most old winches are pretty slow. My big one, it's like watching grass grow! lol
