I've got a fair amount of wide blade type grass that showed up in my lawn when I reseeded portion of it. I figure some strange seed got in the mix or something blew in with the wind. Anyway, is there a way to spray out this wide grass from the law and not kill the narrower grass? I thought I read somewhere that it was possible but not sure where I saw it. Here's the photo...

Can I do anything to get rid of this stuff?

A horticulturist on a local news channel here said last year there are 2 ways to do it. Kill it or dig it out roots and all. He dug 6" down to get as much of the roots as possible, then sprayed the sides and bottom of the hole with round-up, filled the hole with compost and potting soil and sprinkled a few grass seeds around.

Crab grass, yes you can get rid of it, find a weed killer/fertilizer in one, up here we have a good one called PAR III, I assume you can get it in the states.

That doesn't really look like crabgrass to me. Looks more like a different variety of fescue. There are herbicides that will kill crabgrass and not fescue (Trimec comes to mind), but I'm not aware of anything that will single out individual varieties of fescue.

I neglected to mention this is scattered around two or more acres. That's a lot of digging so it's on my "B" list.

Do you know the active ingredient in this? I'll look into it.

Well, I do think it's a different sort of grass but not 100% sure. There must be a way if you can kill crabgrass? That's no more than a wide grass, isn't it?
