Tractor
MF35 Utility (gas)
I got this tractor about four years ago. The tires always looked funny, though the previous owner said they were new or newer. Now they're coming apart! It looks like the tread is coming off the carcass. I don't know if there's such a thing as retreads for tractor tires but these sort of look like it.

Can these be repaired or saved somehow??! I need to stop the tread from coming off.

Gee they look shot, are you keeping the tractor? then bite the bullet and buy new, at least you know the date of starting new.

Yes I'm keeping it. Other than that flap of tread coming off the tires are in good condition, very little cracking and such. I was hoping there's a way to re-attach that piece. All I need is the right type of super glue, right?

Seriously, I've heard there's a way to make permanent repairs (vulcanizing?) but now I can find it. I just need to hold that flap down somehow and it should be okay.

I don't know, but tyres are so expensive its worth spending a few dollars to find out.

I'd guess the main thing is to get those cracks filled to stop dirt getting in and causing more delaminating. Blow them out with some high pressure air, and wash them out with turps, then blow them clean and dry again. Then fill them with black silicone or neoprene from a cartridge.

That does look bad! Unless your local tire shop has something that can fix them, I would think they would just separate again without the rubber being melted and bonded back together. Personally I would purchase another tire.

You said they always looked funny. Can you explain what "funny" is?

What is the brand name of these tires by the way. May be good info for other TBNers if they are considering purchasing this brand of tires.

they are pretty rough.. and IMHO.. not worth fixing.. however.. if it was me.. I'd take a sawsall and cut off the loose tread piece you have puleld up.. then run em till they fall off the rim.

I colelct antique tractors and use them.

I have tires that are that bad and worse, and run around every day. they will eventually go poof.. and when they do.. I'll replace them. no money gained replacing them now if you can run them ratty and get another year or three out of them.

My worst set looks liek that one.. but all over. I took the tractor to work one day when we were working on our liquid asphalt truck and draining the last 50g out to repair some spray bars, and put the 'tar' ( bituminius asphalt emulsion ) on sheet palsting and ran my tieres up and down it liberally till fully coated all the way around.. really tar's up to 3/4's up the side wall.

jacked up the rear , pulled the plastic, and let them set a week, then took it home. they were nice and shiney... that was in about 08 still got em.. still using them.

most of the tar has worn back off running around the pasture.. but the tubes inside the casings are still holding air.

when they go I will buy from tucker tire. they are the best deal on a tire shipped to my doorstep that I have found.

I can buy a tire, with tube, on a rim, and have it shipped to my door CHEAPER than getting the tire ALONE from my local farm store...

If that's all you want to do, just get some big screws and have at it!

The tires are 14.9-24 Goodyear Industrial Sure-Grip. They're on my MF35 Utility.

When I say they look "funny", they've always looked like someone put a cap or retread on. As I recall, the previous owner said he put "new" tires on it but they never looked new to me.

Both tires are doing the same thing with an obvious place where the tread simply starts to peel off. Maybe that's a normal failure for tractor tires but I've never seen one like that.

I'm hoping just to keep them together to buy myself some more time.

You CAn have a newish tire retreaded. IMHO.. it's not worth the cost if it's not a place that actually does it locally.. most places have to ship them. byt the time it's shipped 2 ways and capped, assuming it's a newish caseing anyway.. you are at least 3/4's the cost into a new tire. semi truck trailer tires or regroveables are similar.

IMHO.. by the time a tire gets worn enough that you think about caping it.. the casing is too old to do so anyway.. etc.

There is an English company that specializes in compounds to fix tractors/grader/ bob cat tyres. (they may be available in the USA)

They are according to the info really tough repairs

Here the link I found in Australia

TRACTOR TYRE , AGRI, TRACTOR TYRE REPAIR, FARM TYRE | eBay

Don't know how good they are

Go to the ag store that handles tractor tires ... surely they have a "cement" a rubber cement like the stuff used on a tube to bond the patch to the tube ... fill the crack with plenty of it and park with the repair down overnight ... next day do the other one and drive on until you need new ones.

I understand tires are very expensive but if you dont replace them you will have a total failure at the most inconvenient time when you really need that tractor.
