A Kubota dealer is ready to sell me a new Woods PHD35 w/ 12" x 42" augar for $400 which seems to me to be a steal. My concern is that the B7500 21 HP engine provides only 17 HP at the PTO and the Woods PHD35 is said to be for 20-35 HP tractors. The dealer tells me that the Woods HP figures alway refer to the PTO. He said I probably wouldn't have a problem but the PHD35 might stall more readily than would a PHD25. I wouldn't get a similar deal on a PHD25 as he is just trying to get rid of the PHD35 which has been sitting around his store for 5 years after another customer backed out of a sale. He also wasn't sure if the 42" augar length would present a ground clearance problem on the B7500. He's willing to hold my check to let me put it on my tractor but the hassle could be avoided if I could get some answers from folks who might have some direct experience or knowledge w/ this match. Putting it on my tractor would answer the ground clearance question but I'm not ready to start digging a bunch of holes to test the stalling question. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

seems like a big auger for that tractor, I had one on a 1600 Oliver (50+HP) It ended up hanging in a tree for years because I never used it. How many holes do you have to dig? Do you really NEED it? Just my thoughts....

Try renting a post hole digger for a weekend.

I've run that size auger with a 5.5hp engine. Your tractor ought to be able to do it. It's a deal - just buy it. The worst case is that it's too big and you resell it for the same price or higher.

If you can take it home and try it out first, why not just do that? It would be worth the $400 even if you only have 20 holes to dig. When you are done and looked it for another year. You can sell it for $500. I think you will be fine with the auger size.

The main problem will likely be clearance. If you can get it high enough with your 3 point it will probably be ok.

I don't see too many (actually..NONE) implements increase in value as they get older.

One thing we TBNer's do (and are good at) is spending other people's money!

I'm not spending the man's money I'm just saying that it is a good buy. How about the countless stories here of people buying something at a very good price and sell it for the same money years later or get more on trade in? I just recently read such posts while trying to find info on 3ph finish mowers.

In my neighborhood an implement like that would sell for TWICE that money in well used condition. He stated that the item is NEW. It is a good price. IF(!!!) he needs a post hole digger he should at least try it.

Well. I may have been off a good bit. But. If he does buy it and uses it some, $500 would still be a fair price to ask would it not?
