Most of you guys spent a lot of time to convince me that I need two machines. A big one and a small one. O.K., so for the small one I like the X749. But I know that the X749 is a relatively new machine. Would you be so kind to share your experiences? Good and bad.

I would use the X749 for the following:

1. Cut grass around the house and pond.
2. Collect leaves (mow over) around the house and pond.
3. Transport stuff from A to B.

I would especially be interested to hear from the X749 owners who put a cab and a snow blower on their X749. Is it worth the fortune John Deere is asking for the cab and a snow blower?

Thank you for the education.
Regards,
FRIZ

Hello Friz,

I have an X749 for a year now. It is great for 1. I wouln't know about 2 as I would just mow over them. For 3, I do have a pull cart for that, but I find it easier to move stuff around with the FEL on my 2520, depending on the STUFF. Just about any mower can do 1. But, the X749 is great on slopes or otherwise hilly terrain and around trees.

I have a snow blower for my 2WD Toro Garden tractor. It works great with chains on, but I have quit using that. I presently use a rear blade on the 2520 for snow removal. I'll not go back to a blower until the drive gets paved (too many rocks!), or otherwise gets smoothed enough where there is little chance of picking up big rocks. My present snow removal uses a rear blade on the 2520. But, that is being put on the backup list now that I am getting a front blade on a 110 TLB. I like plowing snow better than using the blower. I don't have a cab.

I have an X748 which is very similar except for the 4 wheel steering.

1. Works great. I have a 54" deck

2. I have 3 yards that I clear leaves from. Using the mower, I start in the middle and blow the leaves to the edges and into the woods. Clears the leaves very good.

3. I have hauled a utility trailer loaded with firewood up a 10% grade with no problems. Probably 300 to 400 lbs.

My overall experience would be a 10 out of 10.

I've had my X749 for about two months now and love it. I have the 62" deck, MC519 cart and powerflo blower, cutting the grass is a breeze and it does a great job picking up the leaves.
I installed the 47" snowblower yesterday and today we got 3" of wet snow to try it out on. This machine is unbelievable for blowing snow the AWS and AWD work seamlessly, I like it much more then my 2305.

LBrown, please quit trying to force the same arguement over and over, this has been discussed many times and is really just pointless to continue, in fact it harbors on trolling.

A more appropriate question is why does he like it better than his 2305? I'd like to hear from someone who actually has both.

I had both that's why I said "my" 2305 instead of "a" 2305;). I sold the 2305 this past spring and bought a 2520 for loader work and the X749 for mowing and blowing. The X749 is more maneuverable then the 2305 so in my case it works better for mowing and blowing. Also it is more stable on hills, I would pick up the rear wheel every time I would turn at the bottom of my drive with the 2305 whereas the X749 is "rock solid".

I was reluctant to put out the money that this thing costs but I can say now I am very satisfied and believe I got what I paid for.

I knew you had both. Just wanted to hear why you liked it better. I have an "old" 425 AWS that I also mow and snow plow with. I have a bigger Kioti CK25 that I bought 3 years ago. When the guy delivered it he said: "I guess you won't be using that Deere to move snow anymore." To which, I replied: "Oh yes I will, that little Deere will plow circles around that big tractor in the tight spaces that I have to work in."

And I'm still convinced of this. I wish it had 4WD like the X749. I was asking because I thought I might want to replace it with a subcut, like the 2305. But, like you, the size of the garden tractor is just way more nimble. Maybe when I wear out the 425 an X749 might be in my future. Just not sure it'll ever wear out, 15 years and counting.
