Kubota 3710, KX121 excavator
I am now seriously looking at buying a new excavator. Since I now own a Kubota 3710 HST and have had excellent service so far, I believe I would buy a Kubota again. I am looking at the KX121 or KX91. If some know's of a better brand or line please say so! What I would like to know is "Would you buy a cab model or a canopy". There is a difference of price but please do not consider it. Thanks!

In our part of world you would freeze for a couple of the months that you could still work. Myself wouldn't have one without for the above reason as well as rain and wind. It is some nice on a stormy day to close the door and windows. You will have to decide if the weather would cause enough grief to justify the extra cost.

I have been casually looking for a mini excavator also. I want one that I can get parts and service for locally. I have a Kubota tractor and I really like the Kubota excavators that I've looked at. The only one I see that I think is superior is the Bobcat. It has a Kubota engine. It has a bigger aux hydraulic capacity to handle augers, breakers, etc... I believe it is also made in USA which for me is a tie breaker. If you do decide to go with Kubota I think that you will be happy with it's capabilities, quality, parts and service.
I think the decision concerning a cab comes down to money. I have had 13 tractors with no cab. My L4330 is the first cab tractor with all the bells and whistles and I will never go back.

I rented a Kubota KX91-3 for a month (ouch) back in mid-November to finish up some projects here. The rental yard that I rented from had both Bobcats and Kubotas, both with and without cabs. The Kubotas were a little newer, by a year or two. The one I got had a heated cab ... was really nice to be able to work thru the cold snap (low 20's) in warm comfort /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

FWIW, in talking to the guy at the rental yard, they felt that they Kubotas were overall better machines and that when they added more they would be Kubotas, not Bobcats.

I own my own backhoe for my tractor (Kubota B2910 with BL4690B backhoe) but after having used a mini for a month I'm a believer - it's much more productive than a CUT mounted backhoe. I really wish I had put the money I spent on the backhoe (and the rental) towards a used mini.

I think it would be better to get a cab with it. That is not an option on the little kubota 008 I have. I am attatching a picture of the new toy.

I vote Cab! I have a Bobcat 331 with a cab and love it, rain or snow I keep working nice and toastie /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. As far as the Kubota vs. Bobcat thing I think they are both great machines but I went Bobcat because the HP and features were better, as well as the parts and service in my area. The best feature is the hydraulic thumb, I use it all the time for moving logs and rocks. I really surprised the local landscaper with the lifting ability, they were struggling to set 2-3' rocks in a retaining wall with 3 guys and a skid steer. I brought the machine over and their reaction was "you can't lift those with that" well I just reached over picked the biggest rock they had and set it in place in less then a minute! What took them a full day to do with their method I could do in 2 hours.
