I'm getting ready to remove the roof on my new nx5510 , to install a radio, back up monitor, new led lights and what ever else I can think of. Anyway while I have the top open I was thinking about adding some insulation anyplace I have room in the top just to help with the heating and cooling, anyone else done this and what type of insulation did you use?

I haven't added insulation, but I've had the roof of my DK open and there's not a lot room up there. It opens from the top so you'd have to disassemble a ton of stuff to get to where you'd want to insulate. Might be different on the NX's.

I'd also say that heating isn't an issue, you can easily ride around in a tee shirt when it's -30C with the fan down to 2 and heat backed off, you'll cook before you freeze. Same in the summer, A/C is more than powerful enough to keep you as cold as you'd like. In both cases, I'd say the heat loss/gain from the roof pales in comparison to what's lost/gained through all the glass.

I would trty extra insulation on the floor first for noise and then temperature.

CB, can't help with your insulation question, but removing the roof seems like way more work than necessary to add a radio and backup monitor, and to swap out the OEM work lights for LED. For the radio, won't your stereo fit in the existing opening? Mine slipped in with minimal modification of the factory mounting frame.

For the monitor, one will mount nicely on the flat area at the top of your dash, and the wiring will track neatly down the firewall, then along a factory channel under a cover plate below the floor mat. For the LED lights, KiotiKevin recently posted on how he did this on his NX4510HST by just dropping the corners of the headliner a couple of inches. If you still want to pop the cab top, EricTheOracle is your go-to expert for this on the NX series. He has two of them. :)

The radio will fit as far as I know, It's a single din radio. I just glanced at the roof and seen maybe 6 bolts , but if it's a lot more to it I will go a different route. I was planning on mounting the monitor on the rear view mirror bracket coming out of the head liner.

My cab roof does not have any extra space to put insulation. Nor does it need it. The heater and A/C work just fine. I did pop the top to install my radio and some additional wiring. I think your cab heat & A/C is designed to work just as it is with nothing further needed.

Thanks everyone, can't be much different than a car or truck roof with the roof skin then a small air gap then the headliner.

You don't need insolation in your cab roof.

But so you know, after removing only six 13mm nuts, washers and washer caps, under your cab roof you'll find this:

And the bottom side of your roof will look like this, only less mangled.

The roof itself isn't heavy but it is big enough that you may want and extra set of hands to put it back on because it is awkward.

Eric, I think you could write a service manual on the NX series, You've torn into just about every part of that tractor!
