Like many owners of the BX22, I wanted to put a cab on for the winter. Looking at the three or four companies that were listed on various posts (Sims, Curtis, Lauren & Jodale?) I decided that the curtis cab would be the easiest to modify. So last weekend I went to my local dealer and purchased the Curtis Cab with all intensions of putting it on for the winter and then next spring modify the roof to be able to use the backhoe.
Price was $2,000.00 for cab with heater and I install myself. An extra $300.00 for the dealer to install. Took close to seven hours to install the cab and I didn't even get to the heater. Quality of cab is very good. So far the only problems I have run into are: (1) the knobs on the ROPS were in the way. Took them off and had no problems with rattles or the ROPS moving. Can replace with smaller knobs if it becomes a problem. (2) It looks like when the ROPS is tilted down, the area where the pins go through the top half and bottom half will hit the frame of the cab. For those of you who do not have to lower it, no problem. I need to lower mine to get it into the garage under the house for the winter so I will just take the ROPS off for the winter.
As for operating the backhoe, much to my suprise, I will not have to modify anything. If you are no taller than 5'8" maybe 5'10" (I am 5'8") you will fit under the roof with no problem. I had maybe 3 or 4 " above my head while sitting in the seat in a normal operating position. I did bump my head once while getting into the seat but if you pay attention to what you are doing then it should be ok. I have not posted pictures on this site yet so when I figure out how to do it I will give it a try. Hope this helps anyone who is trying to make a decision.
