If it's like the one on my Mom's "Sabre" tractor by JD, it has a dashboard switch you push to go in reverse? On that one, I just popped the hood, traced the wire, unplugged the nearest connector on the wire, then hot-wired the two terminals together with a short jumper wire. Finished off with some electrical tape.

This is a "non-permanent" solution so you can just plug it back in if you decide to sell the machine or want to make it foolproof for someone else.

This safety device is a big pain in the neck and is waaaay overboard in my opinion. I disabled it after the first time I used the machine.

Good luck.

I don't know if you have already figured this out or not, but...

1) Bypassing the safety reverse switch is NOT recommended! Why do you think John Deere put it there?

2) That being said, with the tractor turned off, have somebody else operate the reverse foot pedal for you and you'll notice that the linkage going from the reverse foot pedal to the hydrostatic transmission makes a switch when it is depressed. There are some mounting bolts for adjusting the switch so it is not made when the reverse foot pedal is depressed.

3) On the LX255, you just have to pull up on the PTO control knob before you hit the reverse foot pedal and the PTO will stay running. It's not too bad once you get used to it...

Good Luck!

I'm with Runner on this install a removeable link.

None of the lawyers I know help me cut the grass. You should look behind you when backing up your mower, not be fiddling with a switch.

My point also Steve.

My mothers L130 (IIRC?) has that same switch and I always thought it should be hooked up to power a mechanical arm that would come out and grab the top of your head and force it to turn around and look.

Interesting that my 4520 cab doesn't have it and it could certainly do more damage than my lawnmower. With the doors closed I don't know if you could hear someone in time if they hollered.

For this idiot button to do any good it would need to be on the rear of the mower forcing the operator to turn around, instead it focuses you forward go figure.

The "idot button" is not meant to force you to look forward or backwards. It is simply intended to break your thought process while mowing. The idea being that adding a step to allow you to mow in reverse will get you out of the mowing tunnel vision and think about what you are doing. Good luck getting someone online to give you a step by step process of adding their name to a lawsuit:)

I really find mine more of an annoyance than a safety feature.
It is true that you only need to pull up as you depress the reverse pedal, you don't have to hold it. However, if you let go of the pedal and depress it again, the mower cuts out.

Well I often mow in tight quarters and this gets really annoying. I have to keep reaching forward to pull the lever and that takes my hands off the wheel and shifts my right shoulder forward.

Some interlocks are more practical than others...

If you are going to quote me with punctuation marks might I mention idiot is not spelled idot.:D

Please use your RIO switch by all means.:p
