Disclaimer: I'm new to hydraulics but am trying to better understand them. Also, have no understanding of how the 3pt lift controls work.
I purchased this tractor with the 55 gallon drum counterweight already on it and have no plans to remove it. I removed the drum once to see if the lift did work and it does but very slowly. It's chained up now so it doesn't matter if the lift works or not.

I've been keeping both lift control levers at the top and just learned that this makes the three point hitch try and raise the "implement." This seems to place a load on the engine that I would like to remove. I've moved both levers to the bottom now and that seems to help. What can be done to "disable" the lift in the back?
