The BX2750 snowblower requires "Shear bolt 5/16" NC X 2 1/4" for the two auger shear pins. Apparently, 2-1/4" pins are pretty rare - my local hardware store only carries up to 2" (and they carry EVERYTHING), and I can't even find any that length on the internet. Where do you guys get your shear pins??

Easiest to buy them at the dealership- locally or online. I order at least a dozen at a time- especially the grade 8 bolts for the fan, which seem to shear the most.

I'm trying to avoid going to the dealer - they are quite out of the way. I don't need a ton - the blower is merely used as an emergency backup for my BIG blower on my L4200, and I very rarely break shear pins anyway - I always clear the junk out of the way before the snow flys.

I was going to ask - my BX2750 blower has a flanged collar that is connected to the transmission shaft with a grade 8 bolt, then the fan itself is connected to that collar with mating collar and a 1/4-20 x 1-1/4" grade 5 bolt. The grade 5 bolt is the shear bolt. Was that design changed for the 'D' version so that the fan bolts directly onto the shaft?

I've looked around quite a bit for these but have yet to find them anywhere but the dealer. I just buy enough to last the winter before the snow flies.

I just buy bolts the correct length & cut grooves to match the factory shear pins.
Grade 5 for the augers & grade 8 for the fan. I keep 1 each from the dealer, & match the location(s) & depth with a set of calipers. 2 grooves on the auger pins & 1 groove on the fan pin.

I've got a lathe, but a drill & a dremel would work.

You are correct. I own both blowers and the original version did have a collar arrangement with a bolt going through horizontally. The 'D' version uses the same size shear bolts as the augers, going through the shaft, but those particular bolts are grade 8, with the shear grooves cut into them.

I usually decide what items I need for the tractor, blower, mower and FEL and get up one order, on the web.

My auger bolts have 2 grooves cut in them that make them less strong than a store bought bolt. I would not risk it, buy them from an online dealer/source, they will soon be in your mailbox. Philip.

I found the metric PTO shaft shear bolt & nut for my Woods snow blower on line for a little over ten dollars each. For the cost of two shear bolts and nuts I bought a package of 25 of the correct grade & length bolts from McMaster-Carr, and paid a little over fifty cents each for the nuts at the local hardware store. I like to support dealerships that advertise here, but there are times when the economics just isn't there. I'm the kind of person that wants half a dozen spare shear bolts, not one or two. If you have way too many, you probably won't need them!
