I've been wondering how much mower my 2660 can handle. I know it runs my 60" belly mower in tall grass without so much as a hiccup. I'm growing tired of raking my lights off on the bushes and think something I can back under the bushes might be just the ticket.
I tend to wait too long to mow too and the piles of grass that the side discharge belly mower leaves can mat and kill patches of lawn. A rear discharge that scatters the clippings behind me would solve that problem too.

wachoo think?

I haven't seen any rear discharge mowers that I believe could help with your problem. The rear discharge mowers still move the grass to one side and would potentially leave three widrows which might be smaller starting with the left blade and moving to the right with the largest windrow.

This one at Everything attachments looks to scatter it fairly well... watch the video.

Ian you should buy a rear mounted finish flail mower
with a four row rotor/four rows of grass slicers.

This way you will not have to rake anymore as the
clippings will be shredded finely and if the lawn
gets away from you, you will be able to simply
mow over it again and shred the clippings even
finer with the finish flail mower

The BX2660 has enough power for a Caroni TM1600FSC
or a Sicma flailmower of that size

The FSC designation indicates a finish flail rotor with
4 rows of grass slicers with 96 grass slicers/Y blades

AS you are not that far from Ken Sweet you should pay
him a visit and ask him about the 2 lines of flail mowers
he carries as the SICMA would be within the wieght tolerance
for the BX 2660, His diamond flailmowers may be too heavy
for your BX 2660.

Thanks, but I'm not interested in a flail. They're more expensive than a rotary up front and I can't sharpen 3 blades with a flap wheel and be done. Just read that they take more HP per foot of cutting width than a rotary and you can't run as fast with them either.

I'm a little confused about the stated PTO HP requirements. The 60" mower I linked to says it needs 20-40. The 72" version says 30-50. My BX has 19 and it runs the 60" belly mower in deep grass like it wasn't there.

Is there a difference between the efficiency of the 2600rpm bottom vs the 540 back PTOs? Seems like as easy as it runs the 60, that a 72 might be within reach.

I just purchased a rear discharge Bushhog 72" finish mower for my B7800 and it does a beautiful job on my horse pastures. I have mowed some relatively high grass and have had little problem with dispersion of clippings; certainly no windrows.
If you go to EverythingAttachments they have a video of a rear discharge finish mower in action in relatively high grass and you can get an idea of how well it disperses clippings.
You could also speak to them or a dealer about how much mower your tractor can handle.
The 72" is about max for my 7800.

After talking about it with some friends today, I decided to scrap the idea. I have too many things to mow around and the way a 3ph implement swings wide in corners, it would be more trouble than it's worth.

thanks,

I hated emptying my bagger on the BX and so I converted the MMM with a mulch kit and blades. If I don't let the grass get too tall and I mow while the grass is dry, there is no thatch. If I let it get too tall or cut while wet, then there is some windrow thatch. I have a Mediterranean climate (cool wet winters, hot dry summers) and irrigate on Mon.-Tue. in the summer. As long as I cut every summer weekend (when dry), everything gets mulched and there is no thatch. If I let it go longer or cut shortly after irrigating, there is some. Another benefit is that the nutrients are returned to the turf and I do not have to fertilize as I did when I bagged the clippings and dumped them in a compost pile.
