I've never used a tractor at all. I'm new to all this. My dealer/salesman made it sound like you can raise the height to anything you want on the back and have at it. I've read on numerous threads about all the gravel scraping with the plow and stone throwing with the snowblower. My driveway is about 125' of gravel. I have enough trouble with the walk behind blower on the first couple of snowfalls.

What I would like to do is raise the snowblower or plow about three or four inches off the ground for the first couple of snowfalls. Maybe even more to prevent stones being thrown or scraped.

So is this possible on the BX24? Can you raise the 3 pt. hitch to any height within its capabilities to do a job?

As you can probably tell, I have no idea how this quarter inching thing works, either. If someone could explain this to me along with position control I would really appreciate it. Yes, I have done a search but the stuff I have found just does not explain it well to someone who has never encountered this stuff before at all.

Thanks for any help.

John

Your snowblower should have adjustable feet that skid along drive to hold edge above drive. Mine adjusts to about 2 inches height. Once the ground is frozen the feet do a good job. I have a 500 foot gravel drive and manage fine with it.

Be carefull that the side to side slope of your attachments matches your drive. If your 3pt hitch is adjusted down to the left and your blower if down to the right, you run the risk of ploughing more than just snow :D By going in the correct direction you can match slopes, or spend some time adjusting side arms on 3pt to suit.

Another thing to watch with attachments is that the angle of attack of your blade is not too severe. Kinda like shaving and really digging in. Not a lot of fun and may do some damage. Better to adjust the top link of your 3pt to scrape with a lighter touch.

Hope that gets you started on the right foot. :) I'll add a post with copy of some more tips below.

copy of content.

Earlier post mentioned blowing snow downwind. Good common sense and if you don't you will soon be reminded by the snow in your face . Just thought I'd add, to blow the upwind side of the drive first and work to downwind side. Avoids building up the supply of snow that will soon blow back into your drive. Of course if you're looking for more seat time...

Anyway my tip adds to those who talked about cleaning the augers to avoid snapping pins if they freeze up afterwards. Much easier to clean blower if you leave it raised after you park it. Gives easier access to clean and clear out the snow that falls underneath. Then just let the hydrolic pressure off to let the blower float down to rest.

I have a front mounted snowblower and a 400 foot gravel driveway. I just raise it slightly off the ground (maybe 1") for the first time or two. I haven't found a need to raise the adjustable feet from the minimum position. After the first time or two running the blower raised a bit, I run the blower in the float position and haven't had a problem with gravel.

Unfortunately the hand blowers don't have the ability to raise the unit off the ground, or float over irregular terrain.

I get lake effect snow and lots of it. Sometimes the ground doesn't freeze until February. I don't want to use the runners in the beginnning of the season. No matter how high, they dig up the gravel and throw it into the blower. It makes a mess of the blower and a mess of the lawn. I want to raise the blower mounted on the 3 pt hitch up off the drive about 3 or 4 inches on the first few snowfalls. I want to do what smfcpacfp does only a little higher and on the back instead of the front. Can you do this?

A HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!! Yes Renob, you would know! Thanks everyone. I still don't quite understand how the 1/4" thing works on the back. All I get is that it's not as convenient as position control. Compared to a 13hp walk behind, it's probably a luxury.

We new owners of a BX2350, and I plowed about 5 inches of fairly dry snow on a gravel drive this evening. Used a back blade with skid shoes set to the height of the blade, and the FEL, mostly the back blade though. They both picked up some gravel but mostly where the drive has bumps. Next fall I'll smooth the gravel before winter.

The quarter-inch feature on the TPH valve is essentially a slow speed position . Move the handle part way and the attachment moves slowly up or down. Move it all the way and the attachment moves faster. The slow speed movement makes it easier to set the height.
