I have two safety switches Under the seat, one black and one gray. When I push the black one in I get a clicking sounding and I think that is the one for the seat. Does any one know what the gray one is for? When I first got the tractor I could put it in neutral position and get off the tractor and the tractor would run normal. Now it Doesn't want to.

The gray switch is a 3 position switch. (make-break-make) With the seat in the normal position it "makes" with the black switch to allow the mid pto to work as long as your behind is in the seat.
With the seat spun around in the BH position it opens the 1st circuit and will kill your engine should you depress the HST pedal or try to engage the mid pto.
When the seat is flipped forward, It 'makes" the other circuit to allow for operation of the rear pto. (to run a log splitter or other stationary implements off of the rear pto)

The black switch is the operator presence switch, it "makes" when your behind is in the seat and will kill the engine when it ain't and/or you either try to engage the mid pto or depress the HST pedal when your behind ain't in the seat :D

If you have the range select in neutral AND the pto switch is off the engine should not die. If it is then either the pto safety switch is loose and giving the indication of the pto being on or the HST pedal safety switch is. I wouldn;t think that they would be bad but it's always a possibility. I would guess the switch is loose. Try to wiggle the pto lever and/or the HST pedal around to see if it will stay running when you get off.
On my BX23 I can get off even with the range selector in gear without it dieing, as long as the pto is off and the HST pedal isn't depressed.

Good luck

You have to wonder who figured out these circuits and what is going to happen when one fails. You are going to need an electrical engineer just to diagnose the problem. :(

The manual says the BX 24 should run without the operator in the seat with the selector in gear as long as the PTO is off and you don't touch the go pedal. You hit the go or engage the PTO it shuts off instantly. (Mine actually works that way) If it's a 24, it has to be under warranty so let the dealer figure it out!

I've heard the BX 23 required the selector to be in neutral but I'm not sure.

My BX23 had to be in neutral before it would start. I was always worried that it might runaway down hill with my grandson ( he's a little on the short side). When I found out that the BX24 didn't require the shift lever to be in neutral, I disconected the plug on that switch and put a jumper wire in the plug. It is now safer and much more convenient to start.
