bx24 front fenders

anybody try mounting some front fenders on their bx yet? i was driving all over town on slush covered streets with and without front chains and every puddle would throw up a ton of salty, muddy crud onto the foot rest area. needless to say, this did not help the "cold feet" syndrome or the "dry pant leg" comfort feature!

last week, i picked up a clearance boat trailer fender from the local bass pro shop for 10 bux and am going to try cutting it in half and mounting half on each side over the front wheels to try to curtail some of the blow back.

just wondering if anybody ever tried this and ran into any problems/solutions. my obvious concern is that they will get a lot of abuse on trails and in the woods, but i think i can put a pretty beefy mount together so the risk of major damage is minimal. also, i realize they won't turn with the front wheels, but my main concern is deflecting the blow back at higher speeds, and when i'm going fast, i'm usually going pretty straight anyway, so i'm thinking centered pretty much over the wheel when straight and no wider than the outside edge of the wheel to prevent the fender being the widest part of the body and snagging on things.

any thoughts?

Seems like a good idea to me. Besides boat fenders, I was thinking you cut cut up a plastic 55 gallon drum because the base (or the top) would provide extra support for the curve.

well, now, that IS a pretty good idea! maybe if i screw up the one i have, i'll try the metal barrel. around here, those "trash burners" go for around 15 bux apiece.

JD sells front fenders for their X700 series tractors which have the same size tires. Maybe that would be useful at least to see how they mount theirs. They are standard on the "SE" models.

here is the john deere version. i found the kit on ebay for $380!!! i can't believe they can get that kind of cashola for a couple of pieces of plastic and some hardware. there doesn't seem to be anything special about the way they are mounted.

your idea of using a $15 barrel and my $10 boat trailer fender are starting to look really good!

I have a set on my 5030 and 5740. They are aftermarket fenders installed by the dealer. The set on the 5030 have a metal frame with thick rubber as the fender. They are almost like a mudflap from a truck. The other set is hard plastic. When I get the chance I'll try and see who makes them.

Check places that sell Jeep/Samurai accessories. You can probably find some aftermarket front fender extenders that might work. They would be UV protected plastic and have one side flat for mounting. Easy to drill and notch as needed.

Hi If you want a nice front fender that is made for that tire size you can order it from John Deere corp It is part # am133907 fender price is $31.35 each it can be attach to the wheel very easy with 1/4 round rod with a heavy washer welded to each end and 1/4 - 28 bolts 1/2 inch long welded to the top 2 bolts on each wheel punkin that way the fenders turn with the wheel and they are adjustable up and down on the wheel and are very strong I've had the front wheels completely buried the the snow and the fenders didn't even move total cost with tax 71.36 Lowboy
