BX24 bush hog size and suggestions please.

Though everyone will probably tell you to go with the 48", I would suggest looking at the 42" cutters that are designed for this series tractors. Not only are they smaller in diameter, they are shorter so there is less weight overhang. They also have the three point mount points set up for that series...... My opinion only. I have a 48" Bush Hog Squealer on my B2620, and wouldn't want any more back there. It does work fine though. I wouldn't go to a 60" on a tractor smaller than the new B3200, or B3030.

Most people will say 48" is fine. Be aware that brush cutters come in light, medium, and heavy duty versions (LD, MD, HD). Light is for pasture grass. Heavy will cut saplings up to 2" in dia. if tractor PTO hp matches specs. MD is obviously in between. All have free pivoting blades attached to a "stump jumper" spindle pan. HD has a heavier body, but also relies on a very heavy blade to break material with sheer inertia, while LD blade is lighter and depends somewhat more on sharpness to cut, rather than break, the plant stems. I have a BX2200 and a Gearmore 40" (cut width is 40" while body width is 42") HD unit that cuts clusters of 2" dia. saplings with no loss of rpm. Only extremely dense broom grass lugs it down. I like this unit as its 42" body matches the BX width and I can judge whether it will fit between trees by eyeballing. You might get by with a LD 60" unit in pasture only situations, but I wouldn't push it.
EDIT: BTW, I think the Gearmore 40" may be the only HD model that is less than 60". Most other 42" and 48" models are LD or MD. Consider this in evaluating your needs.

I have a BX23 TBL and have a 48" Bush Hog Squealer and it handles it very well. I use it along my stonewall fence line and also to cut where my lawn ends and where the woods begin. So I'm cutting brush, small saplings and un-wanted weeds, I do this about 4 or 5 times per year. I would not want to have a larger size for the BX as this is the ticket for my use. This is just my suggestion but it works for me.

I prefer 48'' but 42 would be ok for smaller areas
and getting into narrower tighter spots.

I use a landpride 48 and it works very good in all kinds of use,including tall feild chopping,heavy brush,I just recently clean out another acre of woods behind my house and chopped stuff up to 2 inch's if you take your time and back over it.make sure what ever you get it has mounting holes that will work with your BX,my landpride has two sets of pin holes so it will work with either size tractor if not you will not be able to lift it off the ground but about an 1".
I have the tractor supply xb 48" model made for subcompacts and it works well. I chose it because the duel rear wheels give a little more control and support and it was the best price for the amount that I was going to use it. It has done everything that I asked of it.
