I've been kind of curious whether I could salvage some of it with a large backpack blower. I've been looking at the Husqvarna 580BTS.

Not familiar with the Husqvarna but will say I have been very satisfied with the Stihl BR 600 rides in the back of my truck and has a lot of use with out any problems.

By far, most of my neighbors do not have a sprinkler system. I count 3 on my block. The ones with green lawns, water by hand / garden hose.

Thinking grass between the two cement slabs, and from the red shed forward to the slabs.

I bought a couple tons of pea gravel and 3/4" brown river rock to play with.

All the stumps and lilac bushes are slated to come out.

Do you have water or irrigation for this? If not I suspect you are wasting your time. Look around you at the other properties there is a reason most of them are bare.

Think long and hard about where you want to go with this before you throw down the money.

I had deduced:

L=land
P=??
G=grader
S=scraper

a small lawn area can be watered by hand or with a hose and sprinkler as shown. Larger lawn areas can be time consuming to water by hand.

It appears you are on municipal water I would inquire about the use of water for lawns to see if there are restrictions for watering. I would also investigate the cost for water usage, whether there is a penalty for higher consumption.

The small areas you indicate would not cost too much to water but the whole back yard might be.

Timers are best to use for watering, this allows you to water early in the morning just before sun up. Less wind and evaporation before it has a chance to soak in. Timing and duration and correct watering days without much input from you. Just like clockwork. The simple ones that attach to your hose bibb are pretty good now.

One additional reason for underground sprinklers is freezing at night. Grass needs some reduced watering even in the winter months. Even when the grass goes dormant the roots are still growing. If you have a dry winter the grass will benefit from watering about once a week.

Do not leave hoses or timers on the frost proof faucets in the winter. these faucets need to drain the tube through the wall into the heated space.

No restrictions right now, but to your point -- we have already been having red-flag days. Driest it's been in a long time.

In previous years we have had watering restrictions. I'm still not sure it's worth anyone's time & expense to have grass.

That said -- the local landscaping supply stocks "Colorado Perfect" and "dryland pasture" native grass seed. They sound interesting. I don't want to do sod.

I don't see much point in laying sod since you can grow a much better root system with seed over the winter months. I know when I planted my yard in August that the roots were almost 6 inches deep by mid Febuary. I did use winterizer fertilizer with root stimulators mixed in and that worked out well.

I purchased the GS1548 LPGS for $1197+tax.

Looking to plant around 4000 square feet of lawn (~2000 + ~1250 + ~750).

Purchased 4 yards of topsoil, 15 yards of cow+humus & 40lbs of polymer crystals -- for a combined total of $873.12 -- on Saturday.

$329.99 (shipped) for the Ratchet Rake. I'd have probably purchased one eventually anyway, but it seems like it should be handy right now.

A land plane grader scraper is much better
