We are about to start building our new home on 2.5 acres. It is somewhat sloping and no landscaping in place. I currently own 2 acres and have been using a 2 year old JD LX277 w/48deck. I have been please with this lawnmower, but want to make the job easier and faster at the new place. Concerns with the BX2200 are price and is it too big? I would like to have the FEL but am not sure I can justify the cost. Does anyone ever have a problem with the weight being too much? I am considering purchasing an extra set of bar tires to use while I am landscaping and switch back to the turf once complete. Any and all suggestions are appreciated. I will travel outside the state to save sales tax if anyone has a good dealer experience to share somewhere near Jackson, Mississippi.

Jeff, I am from West Monroe originally though have lived from AZ to Colorodo and Texas and Georgia and now Kansaw. I think that for your area, probably St Augustine lawn the bar tires might be a problem with the soft mushy soil. I think you should get the turfs.
Is the BX to big, well maybe but many think it is not big enough. For 3 to 10 acres it is a good size machine unless you intend heavy loader and ground breaking work in which case you need the 7500 or 2400. The BX will not tear up your lawn with the turfs and maybe not even with the bar tires. You will find the BX actually quite nimble around trees and beds and around your buildings.
Cost, compared to the JD455 the BX is a smoking deal and compared to larger tractors the BX is well priced for such a versatile machine. I suggest you get the BX with 60 inch deck first and add the FEL the next season unless the dealer gives you a very good package deal. The loader is so useful you will regret not getting it but with only 2.5 acres it is hard to say--what are you plans, do you have ditches, ponds, berms, dams to maintain, gravel drive? etc. Perhaps the justification for the BX is that you want one because obviously you have been making do with a lot less. please believe me, Trescrow is right. The BX is the machine du jour! I'm certain that it is NOT too big. This is because I ony have 3/4 acre. It is usefull with any size lawn unless it becomes a hinderance. for 1/4 acre, it would be too big. but for what you have, definatly get it. also, if you can swing it, get the fel. each time you need it and dont have it, you will remember this post telling you to get it. you dont want that nowq do you??? ;^)
