I've clearly struck the BX2200 info gold mine here... I have a 250 foot paved driveway which I was planning on snow blowing with my Honda snowblower. Alternatively, I might sell my Honda snow blower (awesome piece of equipment) and put a blade on the front of the BX2200, but I'm concerned about starting a diesel in very cold temps. Of course, the Honda fires up on one pull at zero degrees no sweat. I do have "Winterized" No. 2 in the Kubota now, whatever that means (anti Gel?). My question is, how do these things start at very cold temps? Do I need the block heater? Will the front blade do a good job plowing?

Thanks again!

I've never had a problem starting mine but I do store it in an attached (but otherwise, unheated) garage. The outdoor temp has been below zero but the garage temp probably seldom gets below freezing. I rely on the BX2200 with snowblower to keep my 420 foot driveway clear.

Patrick,

I have a friend who used to have a Kubota, I believe it was a B2100(?). He had a loader, backhoe, and numerous other attachments including a front blade. When I was talking with him before I bought my B2410, he told me that the only time he had ever been disappointed with his tractor was using the front blade. He said the tractor wasn't really heavy enough for it (don't know if he was using front weights or not). Based on that, I've ruled out a front blade for my tractor, and I think you might be in the same boat with the BX2200 since it is even lighter. I don't think the front blade setups are dirt cheap either - maybe you should consider a front-mounted blower. There have been a lot of good things said about the BX's with the front-mount blower.

Can't speak for the BX and cold temperatures, but I personally wouldn't be worried about 0 F, especially if I had a block heater (which I do have for my tractor).

Considering the fact that the BX is more than twice the weight of the little garden tractors you see clearing driveways - and also has the torque of a diesel and 4wd behind it, I don't see weight as an issue.

The old saying holds once again ... the BX is a small tractor and will do just what the heavier ones will provided you take it in smaller bites.

I'm certainly not worried about clearing my drive with my back-blade.

Didn't mean to set you off, Patrick - just relating what I was told by someone who had actually used a front blade on a larger Kubota to move snow. (This fellow lived in Maine, by the way, so the snowfalls were pretty heavy).

I think a rear blade would work differently (and better) than a front blade, so I agree with you on that. In fact that is how I plan on moving snow this Winter, but I would still not put my faith in a front blade to clear an appreciable snowfall with a B-series or a BX.

I'd love to have the front mounted blower, but at a quoted price of $3500, there's no way.

No worries - just standing in for TresCrows as defender of the BX faith there for a moment.

I've had absolutely no trouble starting my 2910 in 0 deg and lower temps. Starts right up every time just like in the summer. All I do is let the glow plugs run longer before starting - maybe 5 seconds verses 2-3 in the summer for a cold start.

Okay. By the way, does TresCrows let you wear the head dress and the robes when you're standing in for him? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Oh no - there's only one defender of the faith.

I'm just a justifier of the expense - very much a secondary role.
