I am awaiting delivery of my BX2200 with LA211 FEL with a Woods RD6000 rear finish mower and box blade. Before I take delivery of this mower, has anyone had sucess with this mower of one like it? I have approxmiately 2 1/2 acres of flat mostly unobstructed lawn to cut, plus as noted on previous post will be slowing building driveway. I had originally thought about getting a BX1500, but determined from different replies that the BX2200 would be better.
Also is $13,000 including tax a pretty good price for this combination? Thanks for yall's help.

I'm curious about why you chose the RFM rather than the MMM?

Congrats on the new bx and welcome to TBN!! How much does the Woods RFM weigh? A Woods GB 48" box blade (428 lb.) on a bare (no MMM) bx2200 allowed me to bounce the front tires off the ground by leaning on the box blade with my foot. Remember that a box blade concentrates its weight closer to the 3ph. An RFM hangs more weight out behind the fulcrum point at the rear axle. I'm not sure; you may find you need weight on the front to keep the tires biting in.

Jim, tnks for your insight. Several local people that have BX22 also have the RFM rather than a MMM. That is why I am going with that, but I could change my mind if needed.
With the RFM I believe that I could get closer to some areas than with the MMM. Tell me some more. I am open to making the right decision with a lot of help from good people like you.

Dave, thank for your response. As I told Jim above, I am trying to figure out what would be best. The same people that have the RFM in my area also have a FEL, which they attached while mowing, but I questions that extra weight and the ability to move around objects. What do you think? Are you able to cut close to objects with the MMM? Also how difficult is it to connect and disconnect the MMM? That is what I prob need to be questioning more than anything else. I was told by the dealer that the MMM is not as easy to connect as the RFM. What do you think?

The MMM on a BX is not that difficult to remove and install. On other models however, it can be quite a chore, so perhaps your dealer was confused. It takes about 3 or 4 minutes to remove it from my 2200 and perhaps 10 minutes to put it back on. The extra time is hooking up the driveshaft. It takes me aqbout the same amount of time to install my tiller to my 3pt, so I can't see a huge advantage there.

As far as cutting close to things, I could see where the RFM would be nice for getting UNDER things, but overall would be less maneuverable because the tractor would be so much longer with it on the back and perhaps a FEL for ballast, which would hinder your turning ability. Would would your minimum cut circle be with a RFM? I know wiht my MMM I can cut as small as 3'feet or so.. (Trescrows, help me out here...what was that minimum again???) I'm sure the minimum with a RFM would be quite a bit larger. As far as cutting close, i can get within a couple inches of my fence line with my 60" MMM. I think cost is less on a RFM, and like I said, it would sure be handy for getting under things like low trees, otherwise I can't see any other real advantages.

Charlie, tnks for the post. I like what you said about the amount of time it takes, thats not bad at all. Now how much trouble is it to get the MMM out from under the tractor? Does it require a jack or do you just drag it out? I am sorry for the rookie questions, but am just trying to make the best decisions for my use. I like the MMM if my wife has to mow and it is already hooked up, but I don't know if she could hook up it up. Of course the plan is for her not to have to use this Man's machine ( as I have explained it to her).
Any input it appreciated. tnks

If I just had large open areas to mow, I'd consider the RFM. But I have a lot of trees to mow around and the 60" MMM is ideal for that...and I have almost NO trimming to do afterward. I also don't mow with the FEL on the machine. It only take about three minutes to take it off or put it on, so I see no reason to have it in the way physically with both my vision and maneuverability.

Krecker,
By adding the rfm to bx you are giving up the machines greatest asset - its mid mount mower. I would be very concerned about the machines resale value without a MMM.

Hi,

I have the Woods RD6000 RFM which I bought with my B2910.

If I were you I would probably go with the MMM. The RD6000 adds a lot of length to the tractor. It also takes a little getting used to, as hanging out the back it goes opposite to the way the front of the tractor goes.

The RD6000 rides on its own wheels...so if you want to cut over a bank, you have to lift the 3ph to suspend it...still, that might be an advantage over the MMM if you have banks to deal with...but it does not sound like you do. You can also back under pine trees and such if you need to with the RFM, which you can't easily do with a MMM.

The MMM on the BX, from what I have read here, is floating, suspended from the tractor, and reportedly gives a better overall cut on nice grass.

Although I have the RFM, I sometimes think I might have better gone with the MMM. The RFM does a satisfactory job on my short weeds...which we call grass, however.

Do your best to decide which mower you want BEFORE you take delivery!
