Tractor
NH TC 29D
I almost signed the papers for a NH TC40D with loader, backhoe, and other options. It was my dream tractor, and the price was over $28,000. I started to fell uncomfortable about spending that kind of money. I was not going to use it as a finish mower. In a typical possible overreaction, I started thinking much smaller. I have 14 acres in southeastern PA. The land is almost all wooded and hilly. I do not have much grass at the moment, but I am going to expand my yard. I do not ever see a yard over 2 acres. I have a 600 foot paved driveway that is quite steep, but the house is at the top. I would like a tractor for mowing, snow removal, firewood work, and general landscaping. I am now thinking about a BX2200. Am I crazy? I test drove one, and it seems like a great little machine. It is very small. I can get a BX with loader, bar tires, 60” mid mower, and 60” rear blade for ~$13,000. I know that I should probably get a bigger machine, but I need something right now. If I got the BX, I might sell it in a year or two for a larger machine. I might also keep it as a mower and companion for a larger machine. I really need some input, as I am hoping to buy a tractor this Friday.

If you have gone from a TC40 to a BX2200....I think you better slow down, take a step back, and seriously consider your needs. If you have a pretty rough 14 acres and want to use the tractor to do grading and "set up" your yard, I think the BX2200 is probably too small. However, if you only plan to "mow" (what about rough cutting?) 2 acres, clear some snow and get some firewood...then a TC40 is very likely too big! I would think you should be looking in the TC25D/B2710 kind of range. Probably save on the $$$ and yet still provide the right combination of power and size.

Just my $0.02.

You need some decaf…/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

What is in the budget? How much can you really afford? First find out those answers and then we can talk size of tractors…

Somehow, I’ve got this 6th sense… that says your competing with someone on the tractor end… did a friend recently get a compact tractor or something…? I hope I’m just jumping to conclusions… You have to buy for yourself…

Show me the money…then we can talk…/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

You are right about the decaf. There is no tractor competition or envy, however. I was initially looking at a mid size machine like a TC33D. I fell into the couple-of-extra-bucks trap and suddenly I was over $28k. I then thought that since I can't get what I really want then I will get something small, versatile, and with great resale value. The BX came to mind. I am going to try to look the new TC30 and B2710 ASAP. I am hoping to have something in writing by the end of the week. I have work to do before winter and I should have made up my mind sooner. As for $$$--I think 15 or 16k is all I want to go. I have given up on the backhoe for now. Further input is appreciated.

NH TC33 Combo Pkg. With Loader ~ $16K

I’m not as familiar with new prices as I am with used {auction etc.}, but the NH spec’s are much higher than the Kubota model you’re comparing… also to keep your future backhoe on your wishlist, I would lean toward the TC30 or TC33. You have more mass on the NH for stability, ground engaging equipt, and the hydraulic hp is much higher… along with more PTO hp.

At this point, for a few thousand dollars difference, the BX is no longer in the running, and shouldn’t be considered for serious future backhoe work. Besides, this would eliminate playing around, trading down the road, taking a big hit, etc.…Today, get want you need and can use now, even for the higher price… after you sign the papers and take delivery, the few dollars more you paid for what you want is quickly forgotten…

Check out the above website with the TC33 and loader package for your $16,000 price with a few extra goodies… you can probably strike up a similar deal with your local NH dealer…

Good luck…

Bher,

I looked at tractors for over a year, and you've covered my thought process for the first 6 months in about a week. I decided the BX was too small for my needs (see my profile) and ultimately went with the 2910 for about $16,500. Heck of a tractor and perfect for my needs. My thoughts are that you should be looking at a 24-30 hp tractor with the capability to add a backhoe at a later date. Either the TC30 or 2710 would be just about right.

Thanks for the understanding and balanced replies. Believe it or not, but I just talked to the dealer about the TC30. If I can get it with loader and back blade for ~$15.5k or less, it might be perfect. I can probably buy a piece-of-junk lawn tractor to handle mowing for awhile.

/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif I don't know how much the "junk" would cost... but you can buy a new 3-point rear finish mower by KingKutter for under $1000. to hook up and use on your new tractor... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
