Does anyone have any opinions or experience driving a BX2200 through shallow water? I will be replacing my old Ford NAA Jubilee shortly with a BX. However to get to one corner of my x-mas tree farm I need to ford a small creek. It has a hard bottom so no problems with getting stuck. I am however concerned that depending on rain fall amounts I may need to run the little tractor through 4-10" of water for a few seconds to cross the creek. Will this cause any problems? Will water get into the front axel housing? Will I get water in the wheel bearings? All and any advice will be appreciated.....
Thanks!

Darin

We do a lot of driving vehicles thru water.

Best way is if tractor is cold as then the seals etc. won't contract when the hot seals & oil etc. meets the cold water.

No sure of the ins and outs of tractor front bearings (I assume you have 4x4) but if the tractor is not too hot, I'd say nothing to worry about, especially only that depth.

If tractor is hot, maybe just check your oil drains avery now and then, as water will settle to the bottom of the oil (Once the oil has sat idle for a while)

Don't get too worried.

Cheers

I don't know how the BX is, but my B2710 has a breather tube on the front axel. You might want to check and add a hose to it, so it is higher than the water.

Sounds like you need to install a culvert. 4" of water is no big deal, and 10" is not a problem if it's standing water. If it's moving with any speed, watch out, your pushing the envelope with the little BX.

I drive mine through over 8" of fast moving water to get to the other side of my property on a regular basis. I talked to my dealer about it, and he said that it would be fine so long as the water did not reach the air filter on the top of the engine. I drove throug deeper water once and found that the flywheel throws water into the engine compartment. Try it and if it starts to throw water back out. The other advice about checking the oil sounds excelent, I will check mine this week.

As long as it doesn't get to the air filter? I understand the theory, but wouldn't bet on it. Like Von said, I sure wouldn't want to get water in the front axle housing, and while I don't know for sure, I'll bet the BX has a similar, if not the same, vent tube our B2710s have.

I think the BX front axle housing might be pretty well sealed. I have noticed the few times I have removed the fill plug/dipstick on the right side that there was a little hiss of air either entering or leaving as I opened it probably depending on the barometric pressure difference inside to out, so it must not have a vent of any sort or at least I have not found one. You could aways just check the oil once in a while for any milkyness indicating moisture after crossing a few times.

Stephen, you make me wonder whether the BX front axle is NOT vented as others are, or whether your vent is stopped up. Does anyone know for sure?

I would be extra careful driving thru water during the colder temps, for you wouldn't want the water turn to ice around your axles etc..as your BX sets idle.

I don't know if there is a vent for sure, but after being submerged 20 to 30 times last summer the oil is still clean. I don't think there is a problem traversing the stream.
