I found this forum today looking for help rebuilding the center spindle of my MMM deck. I have just read through 6 pages of valuble information reguarding grease. Grease is the cheapest mechanic you will ever find. If any one could help with parts sources, Manuals or just plain old this is what I did info I would greatly appreciate it...

Pete,

Your local Kubota can order anything you need. There are also many dealers that sell over the internet.
One dealer, tractorsmart.com, in tennessee, offers a place to download adobe acrobat (.pdf) copies of parts lists for your tractor and its attachments. Try this link: parts books Also, once you get the part number out of the list, try this link to find out their price: parts price . You can order anything from them online. They drop ship your order for $5 shipping/handling (total) per order. If you want a copy of the owner's manual for the deck, drop them an e-mail, telling them what you need. They'll get you a quote, probably by end of next day. Can't beat the service. I recently placed an order on a Friday, parts arrived on my porch following Tuesday. There are other online sources that others at TBN have had good success with. I'll let others add to the list. Hope this helps.

Thanks Uncle Al, I finished removing all of the grease seals and the bearings last night, I have just finished printing off the parts list from tractorsmart. I appreciate the response it was a welcoming feeling.

Thanks again

My pleasure. By the way, welcome to TBN. Here, you'll find at least one answer to about any question you have (and many more opinions as well! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
Hope your rebuild goes well. Keep us informed as to your progress and outcome. You're evidently blazing a trail for the rest of us.

Welcome aboard. Glad to see you got some information to help. Good luck with the rebuild. If you get a chance to take a photo essay of the job, I'm sure many others will be interested as this is currently a "hot" topic on whether the dealers greased or not.

I still need to check mine as it is at my other property and has been for 3 weeks now. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Surfran,
Unfortunatly I will never know if the dealer greased or not since I bought used, I can only assume that he didn't or the previous owner didn't know what a grease gun was. I grease religously, but I think that it was too late in the lives of the bearings. I will appologize in advance for not taking pictures of the existing conditions prior to cleaning everything up, but I will try to snap some shots of putting it back together for you'ns guys ( gender neutral slang here in the 'Burgh) I have had one heck of a time rounding up the bearings and grease seals for everything, the bearings and seals on the side shafts and the lower center shaft are the same per shaft (upper seal, both bearings and a lower seal(different from the upper), which were fairly common, but the bearings, seals and caps in the gear box, were hard find. The bearings on the horizontal shaft in the gear box, where the pto shaft connects, were probably reusable, but I had to take the horizontal shaft out to drop the center spindle out of the gear box. The gear box bearings on the center spindle were doing double duty after the race shattered on the lower bearing in the hub of the center spindle. So I wanted to replace everything when I had it apart. I guess I could have ordered everything from tractorsmart, but I'm a little imatient to get up and running again, those of us in the North east have seen about 3" of rain in the last 24 hrs and I'll be bailing my grass here shortly. I'll keep you'ns posted...

FWIW, I just had the whole left spindle go: bearings, grease seals . . . I t was ugly.

then I found I didn't have the impact wrench to it it off, but the guys at local, dependable Hi-way Fuel took it apart, told me about a local (sort of) dealer that could get me parts fast. He and I found out that getting the entire spindle assembly, including blade, was cheaper than getting the parts I needed.

They arrived next day, Hi-Way Fuel put it together and I'm doing the mowing this Memorial day weekend that was needed 2 weeks ago.

Problem: Even though I had my blades sharpened, the center blade is not cutting well, if at all. I double checked and it's edges are facing the right way, it's right side up, and it moves when the others move.

Anyone know what might be going on?

I tried looking at the manual to see if I could adjust it in any way, but it was as confusing as it always was. Is the procedure for setting the mower's adjustments documented anywhere else? In away I cna understand?

Thanks

Columbian, hold another blade and then try to turn the middle one. See if it isn't spinning on the spindle. My was loose on the spindle. It would still cut, but when it hit heavier grass, it wouldn't cut very well. I couldn't tighten it up with a ratchet either, I had to use an impact.

Hi Columbian,
I was reading your post about Hi-Way fuel, and thought gee, I didn't know they were a nationwide chain. Then I saw you are in Washougal. I live in Camas. Say hi to Rod at the shop for me.
Does the belt-tension pulley and belt appear to put tension on all three pulleys?
Good to see fellow Pacific NW guys on TBN. I would be happy to stop by and see if we could figure it out. I do have the manual for your mower deck.
Best of Luck,
Willie (360) 907-5110
