Just a note to those who self service your tractor. I was changing the oil filter on my Bx2200 and failed to notice that the old oil filter O ring was stuck on the side of the engine block. After installing the new filter and refilling with oil, I crank the engine and pumped most of the new oil onto the floor underneath the tractor. I quickly shut the engine off and upon removing the new filter, discovered my stupid mistake. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Yes, you always want to check to be sure the o-ring from the old filter came off with the filter. Whether it be a tractor, automobile or generator, the o-ring can remain stuck to the oil filter mount. Sure does make a mess. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I think we all have done that one once. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif how many will admit to starting to put the oil in before puting the drain plug in? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I did that too. By the way, it also applies to the fuel filter (how do I know?).

My general rule of thumb now is to always look for an O ring for anything that I take off.

Like the others said, I'll bet we've all done it. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I guess the only good thing is that doing it once teaches a lesson you ain't likely to forget. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I did mine while I was still a teenager. I was working in my Dad's service station when "spin-on" oil filters first hit the market. In fact, we used to sell "adapters" to change Fords from the cannister type filter to the spin-on type. And yep, I learned that it doesn't make any difference whether it's a cannister type or spin-on type, they leak if there's two gaskets instead of one. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
