Hi,

I have a BX2200 that I bought new in 2003 (last year of the 2200 I believe) with a 60" mm. I use it to mow 6.25 acres almost every week during the summer and to plow our drive during the winter.

At the beginning of this mowing season I noticed that at lower blade heights (2.5" or lower) the deck height adjustment will slip (lower) as I mow ( I think after hitting enough small bumps). I usually set it at 3" all season, and it has went down to 2.5 once from there. I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this problem. It's new to me this year. I tried to tighten the nut from underneath, but it's as tight as I can get it.

Please let me know if any of you have had this problem. I'll probably call my dealer soon, but I hate to pay the pickup/delivery fee if it is something simple to fix at home.

Thanks,

That adjustment knob is part of the tractor and is covered by the three year warranty. The mower deck itself is covered for only one year. I would call the dealer and discuss this with the service department. Even if you have to pay for pick up and delivery, it might be worth it if there is something dramatically wrong with the machine. That is what you paid for as part of the machine...... the warranty.

I'm not sure I understand this. The height adjustment knob just rotates a stop that the catches a mower deck support arm. The result is the mower deck can not lower.

Are you saying that when you hit a bump, the height adjustment knob rotates a notch and the deck drops half an inch?

Yes, exactly. By looking underneath the frame, on the other side of the knob, the mechanism looks like a round staircase, where each step represents .5 inch. The arm fits into the "step" that you set on the knob. However, it looks like over time, the edge of each step looks like it has worn, or stripped (rounded instead of squared), so that when you hit enough bumps while mowing, the deck will slip down another .5 inch. I noticed during my first mow of the season that I was down to 1.5 inches from 2.5 within 5 minutes. It seems that my 3 inch setting still holds well (which is what I usually keep it at). I've only seen it slip once this year. The tractor only has 160 hours.

I will probably call this week and talk to the dealer. The only thing I'm worried about is having them keep it for weeks waiting for a part. It took three weeks for them to get me an air filter last summer when I was doing my 100 hour service.
