I'm stumped. My BX2200 with 1600 hours has started acting up. When at full power and under load babe engine loses RPMs and starts blowing dark smoke. If I back off on the hydro I can keep it going. Happens mostly when mowing at full throttle, low range and uphill which is a significant load. Also when trying to pull a box blade but not as severe. I changed he fuel and filters with no luck. Air filter is ok also. Thought maybe it was an injector problem so I tried cracking the injector lines and found that cracking the middle cylinder made no difference in the engine but cracking the front or back cylinder made the engine sputter so I thought I had a bad injector. To test this theory I swapped the injectors. Same problem, cracking the line on the middle cylinder makes no difference. If it was a bad injector I would expect the symptom to follow the injector. I also don't seem to be getting fuel spurting out of the middle injector line. Is it possible that one channel of the injection pump has failed? I removed the injector lines and blew them out with no change.

Unless someone has more advice I'm going to have to get he injection pump checked out. To save some money I would like to pull the injection pump myself but can't find any instructions. I'm assuming it is mechanically driven and don't want to screw anything up removing it. I may also replace the injectors since I assume they are original to the tractor and 1600 hours is a good run. They cost $98 each so. I assume they aren't worth rebuilding. The injection pump is over $700. Are they worth rebuilding or should I just buy new?

HELP!!

Have you checked the timing? I would invest in a service manual from Kubota as it will show you how to adjust timing and remove the injection pump (if needed). The injection pump can be rebuilt but with only 1600 hours it should be fine if you've kept the fuel filter changed and have run good fuel. Is the hydraulic system in good shape? Fresh fluid and filters? Brakes stuck or dragging?

Wish I knew more about the injection pump and how it functions but it sure sounds like you have done a good job of diagnosing the problem. It sure sounds like the main pump.
