BX2200 Hood pops open

Has anyone else had a problem with the hood popping open while on uneven terain? I believe it is especially problematic with a heavy load in the fel. Is it possible I have a frame twisting issue?

I have never had the hood pop open on me but it does rattle a lot and drives me nuts! Make sure the hood lever is all the way forward.

When I first got my BX2200 the hood didn't want to pop open when I pulled the release, I had to take ahold of it on both sides and pull up to get it open. The hood also appeared to be a bit crooked. When I closed the hood I had to push up on the latch knob to fully engage it. The first time I had to remove the engine shroud and reinstall it everything seemed to fall into place. It has worked fine ever since. Might give it a try. If that doesn't help and it is under warranty then tell your dealer about the problem with the hood, but try the engine shroud first.

I put a strip of 3M foam rubber tape on on the hood and that gets rid of the rattling. Doesn't rattle at all anymore.

The latch or catch needs to be adjusted. I doubt you could twist the frame unless you put a huge assymetric load on the tractor. J

Yeah I have that problem and its a pain. I finally strapped it down with a bungy cord.

You dissappoint me, as a fellow Southener I always thought bungee cords were for sissy Yankees. We use duct tape or wire or an old belt. Bungee cords!!, what is the world coming to. J

Mine popped open a few times when I first got it. I found the latch was binding and not fully staying engaged. I put a couple drops of 3 in 1 oil on it, worked it a few times and it hasn't done it since.

As for the rattle, on mine the throttle cable was rattling against the inside of the hood (the black cable that goes across the top of the radiator over the engine and down by the air cleaner assembly to the injector block). On inspection, you could see where the cable was rubbing off the paint on the inside of the hood where it was hitting. I loosely put a tie wrap on the air intake hose and around the cable to keep it from rattling on the hood - loose being the key word here. Worked like a charm.

Thanks for all of the replys, you have jogged my memory. As I recall I don't think I have ever had a problem with the hood until I had been digging around under it looking for trouble. I believe I specifically remember thinking the pin looked odd to me like it wasn't fully protruding into the catch? I'll have to take a closer look tomorrow in the daylight. Just for clarification, is it common for the hood to shift off to the side after it is opened? When I release mine it appears to pop up and move to the right an inch or so. I seriously doubt I have any frame damage. The tractor gets used but by no means abused. Thanks again, Mike

Mine moves about an inch too. It can go to either side. When you go to close it, it can move a lot either left or right - I guess the "hinges" are not all that precise.

The latch is another story. It needs to have a good amount of lube on it to work freely. Sometimes I have to make sure the latch is engaged correctly by pushing it towards the hood as I hold a little pressure on the hood. The 3in1 oil on the latch now and then helps too.
