Last weekend I found a fuel leak on the left side of the fuel tank. I traced it to a white disk about 2-3" in diameter on the top side of the tank under the ROPS. Does anyone know what the disk is for? And why it is not sealy properly. It only leaks when going up and down hills or on bumpy terrain when the tank in full. Any suggestions on sealing this little bugger are appreciated.

willkraft,

I just got mine back from my dealer for this problem. I thought it was the fuel sender unit leaking and suggested the "fuel stay kit" p/n K2561-96140. However when talking to the mechanic he said it was a plug on the top that can get pushed out and leak. He's seen it on a number of units and has fixed them with silicone sealer. Mine doesn't leak anymore but I'm not overly excited about the fix./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif He said the problem is the sending unit and this plug are lower on the tank than the filler neck and when topped off will leak if not sealed. I don't know why Kubota designed it this way. You could build the sender unit into the bottom of the tank if need be and design it not to leak.

Hope this helps,
Michael

It leaks because Kubota has not fully embraced its culpability in this horribly designed component. Everyones leaks (or will leak). Take it back to the dealer. They fixed mine at no cost (other than time and hassel.. and fuel).
Good luck!

Yep got mine back last week too, after waiting 4 weeks for a back ordered tank. Got it back with a full tank, and no charge!

Only problem I have had with the tractor in 70 hours.

Not to be a smart alec,... but you make it sound like it's not too bad to only have one problem (leaking fuel tank) in 70 Hrs of use. I think it's deplorable that these tanks are like this.
Perhaps you are saying that this problem is so prolific, that in 70 Hrs, it is "too" conicidental that you too have had this problem.
In any event, it really ticks me off that they are not addressing the problem.
My tank started leaking after they put on the loader. My guess is the loader installations are triggering the leaking from the poorly manufactured tanks.
Anybody have a leaker "without" having a loader put on????

Well given all the people with leaking tanks, and after asking before I received the tractor if the tank was changed, which I was assured it was, I should be upset. BUT after 9/11, I do not let little things like this bother me anymore, life is way too short. The dealer has been great, traveled two hours to pick up the tractor and returned it with a full tank of fuel, what more can I ask for??? Besides the grass was dead and it would have sat in the shed during the time anyhow!

Yeah. Still ticks me off.
I still seek excellence in the things I do and expect the same in the products I spend several months salery on, even after Sept 11. That is one of the reasons they hate us. Because we have buildings as awesome as the twin towers. Because we achieve great things.

But... I understand what you're saying. And they probably did change your tank before you bought it. In fact, they will probably change it again some day.
Good luck with it.
And of course (especially today) God Bless America!

I talked to my dealer this morning, since the warranty has expired he suggesting calling Kubota service to see if they would authorize a fix. He also said there is a service Bulletin out on this problem #psb-2002-013. Does anybody know the 1-800 service number? Does anybody know how to get a copy of this Bulletin? Thanks

Rogue: have to agree with u. ticks me off also when someone makes produt that is defective, and THEY WAIT for u to address it! it is illeagle to make copies of software, but it is NOT it is not against the law to make software that don't work. am not going to spend a lot of time on this subject otherwise it will just get my blood pressure up and ruin a perfectly good day./w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif. but u all know what i mean.

Got the fuel stay kit last night and installed it. Its a nice design that has little cresents that rotate under the tank opening and form a clamp. Was thinking of putting some epoxy or silicone around it but this kit is real snug on there. I just need to put everything back on and I'm ready to kick some gr--[censored].
