A couple of very loud bangs came from under the hood when I cranked up a couple of days ago, and upon investigation, I found an unhappy 3' snake considerably the worst for wear draped across the fan belt. Then yesterday the fan belt gave up the ghost.(750 hrs). Don't know if I was snake bit or not, but found replacement of the belt to be a royal PITA. Decided not to replace the snake.
The propeller shaft has to be uncoupled to get the new fan belt around the bottom pulley. I was told the seat, floor, speed lever, and propeller shaft, had to be removed, but found I could uncouple the motor end of the shaft and pull it back enough to squeeze a belt between it and the pulley. Has to be done from underneath, of course. It is a lot of work just to replace a belt.
