BX2200 60MMM bearing noise?

My deck is pretty noisy, and it doesn't all sound like belt/blade noise. I'd swear there is a bad spindle bearing. It is especially noticeable when you disengage the PTO and it coasts down. Anybody else with same symptoms? I'm greasing it before every mowing, does not appear to be getting worse. Area around spindles is clean, nothing hitting.

Are you sure you're getting all the Zircs? If I remember right there are 6 on the deck itself and 2 on the drive shaft. If you are getting them all, pull off the blades and look under the spindle guards. There should be grease in each of them from when you push out the old grease...maybe check the condition of that grease, look for metal shavings, etc...there shouldn't be any.

The other thing is that the blades turn at a pretty high speed compared to the ones you may be used to, the BX will make more noise. Go to your dealers and listen to one of his in-stock units to see if it's similar sounding. Good luck and keep us posted...

My 72” MMM has a noise similar to what you describe. I believe it is caused by the power direction coming from the mower to the PTO shaft, instead of from the PTO shaft to the mower.

I make sure there is always plenty of grease in the u-joints.

Just Questions, no answers.
Are any bearing houseings warmer than others after use.
Is there any difference in " play " on any of the blade spindles.
Does it make same noise at different rpm.
Does it make same noise when in heavy or no cutting
Any loose u joints
Is there slack in the drive shaft to the central drive housing bearing and is it lubricated
Does the splined drive shaft from the tractor have any play
Is there a grass buildup on the inside of the mower.
Are the blades all sharp and balanced

I had the exact same problem on my new BX2200 with 60"mmm. It really started getting very loud. Then, one day in April, as I was starting to mow, I heard a bang and a crash. The bearing came apart, the top pulley flew out and the bottom spindle and blade fell out. I brought all the pieces back to my dealer and he couldn't believe it. The bearing actually broke at the collar. He felt that possibly it was not tightened correctly at assembly causing it to wobble and wear. Check your top nut and blade tension on each spindle/bearing.
He ordered a new one and came over and installed it himself.
Works great now and is quiet!

I think a good way to check to see if you have bearing slop is to take the tension off the belt and try to move the blades up and down and back and forth to see if they have any wobble to them. Also, move the blades so they are tip to tip to see if one of them is higher or lower than the other.

A bad bearing would be worst case but a bent blade or a blade out of balance is not uncommon and definately plays he11 on the bearings.....

I had a piece of shaving stuck under one of my blades on my Simplicity 7119 that I didn't notice when I remounted after sharpening. It got to making a lot of racket before I realized it. Then it was off to the bearing supplier......

Hmmm, that's interesting.. I wonder if there is any way to test that theory... I do only hear it at coast down, although the deck in general seems to be very noisy, what sounds like a lot of belt slap, not high-speed blade noise.
