I have a small oil leak in the rear of the tractor. The color of the oil is green, but I'm not sure if this varies by dealers who may or may not put it in upon arrival from the factory. It seems to be on the left side if facing the rear of the tractor and has gathered on the inside wall of the left rear tire. Some of the bars and tubes have an oil coating on them and drips on the floor range from 6" to 8" left and right and the same front to back, just below the rear trans. I was thinking trans. oil so I checked the dip stick and seems low but still with in range. I'm having trouble isolating exactly where it is coming from. I have 6.5hrs. on it. Any suggestions would be great.

Maybe the oil strainer on the left side? If it was removed and installed incorrectly it will leak.

Mike I just got back in from taking these pictures to clarify what's happening. I'll go back and check the screen to see if it is in properly. Thanks for the tip.

I'll be the dolt and ask... are you sure it's not fuel oil? The fuel tank is mounted above that area and if overfilled or leaking it will drip down in several different areas (don't ask me how I know /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif).

I also think it may be diesel and not oil. There has been discussions about leaks coming from the line coming out of the fuel tank. After I read about this leak on TBN I checked my new BX22 and it is also leaking from that area. Just enough to coat the line, not as bad as your leak. I don't know of an oil that is green. Do you buy your diesel from a gas station which is green or do you buy the off-road, non-taxed, red-dyed diesel. Also could it be green from the grass that is on you tractor. These are just my thoughts from looking at your pics.

Reb. & Bob

I will check the fuel lines. I have noticed that my fuel guage has been reading incorrectly(1/4 tank when full) and called the dealer today about it. I just thought I had a faulty float or something.

Reb. yes I did fill up at the gas station so it could be diesel.
I just thought the viscosity was to high to be fuel.

Never got a chance to get back out under it to see if it was the screen as Mark suggested earlier. (Bath night for the kids /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif)

All the hydraulic lines originate from that area. Pull that wheel off and check to make sure everything is tight. When I had my 2200, I had fluid leaking similarly to yours. Turned out to be a loose fitting at the hydraulic block.

Sorry Mike I referred to you as Mark

Well I spoke to the dealer today and they said there was a service bulletin regarding faulty "sending unit" wires and the seal where it comes out of the tank. They want the tractor to fix it, look for the leak and fix the gauge. I still think it's hyd. oil and not diesel. I did a scientific test. I smelled it. Then dipped my finger in the diesel can. The trans fluid was low and the green color is probably just from the clippings (as you stated Reb.) Looks like there is a set screw (plug?) just to the left of what looks like a pump or valve. It has a drip under it.

rlw.

If I cant get to the dealer before the week-end I'll pull that wheel as you suggested. We'll see, I'll keep you all posted.

Thanks for the input.

Joe,

Did you ever figure out where the leak was coming from? I have a much smaller leak coming from the same general area. Mine only seems to leak a little bit after working the tractor for a while. A week's accumulation is barely enough to wet the concrete under, no build up at all. Mine is definitely hydraulic fluid, but the leak is so slow, I haven't done much about it yet.

Joe, I own a BX2200, built my own FEL as well as added an additional 4 spool hydraulic valve to the rear of the tractor.... I've now got TNT. I used all the factory fittings/lines for the BX22. After installing everything I too noticed a small leak on the left rear of the tractor...just behind the wheel. That is exactly where the hydraulic block and all the lines and fittings attach. I removed the wheel and cleaned the area....as there was a thin layer of hydraulic oil all over everything. While I was there, I also checked all my fittings.....yep I found one fitting that was a little loose. I tightened it up, put the wheel back on and that was the end of the leak.

Now in your case, with only 6.5 hours on your tractor, I'd simply take it back to the dealer and let them fix the fuel indicator problem as well as the leak.

Bottom line is, it should be a simple fix and you'll be back in business. Enjoy your new tractor.......I know I've enjoyed mine. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just wanted to update you on the leak. I've been waiting for the dealer to get the parts in for the faulty "sending wire" for the fuel guage then the oil leak will be fixed.

It is definitely hyd. oil. The leak has gotten 100% worse since I first noticed it. The reason: I have not used the 3 Pt. hitch for any rear implements yet until now. The slower leak was a result of the up and down of the MMM. The use of my new post hole digger had it squirting out. There was/is a loose fitting on a solid hyd. line on the inside left tire just under the fuel tank, where it looks like it joins the rear trans/upper arm lifts. There is a set screw there as well.
I cannot get it tight enough to stop it from leaking out even though it was very loose. The fitting looks as thoughit has a crush washer on it. Well that's the story for now. I'm sort of glad I know at least. I'll feel better when I get it fixed. Long winded sorry 'bout that.

Sorry about the delay responses by the way.

Kevin,

The former post I wrote should give you the general area to look. Have you hooked up anything to the 3 Pt. Hitch and lift it all the way up? That's when it pours out on mine.

I'll take a couple of pictures tonight and put them up.

Danny,

Thanks for the info. I think you nailed it on the head. I will be trying to fix it this weekend. I'm in the process of designing and building a deck off the back of the house. When I bought the post hole digger for the footings. {yes , I bought an Attachment before I even finish the design and plans for the deck, </font> "But honey, It'll be finished faster with this tool" } The digger really exagereated the leak-squirt-pour.

Well the part finally arrived and I got the tractor fuel guage fixed and the hyd. oil leak taken care of this past week. The float in the tank seemed to be the issue with the gauge and the leak was an o-ring. I was out digging holes with it this weekend and everything seemed to work fine. That should do it for now. Thanks for all your input.
