Kubota BX22
After lurking, reading, and going back and forth to various dealers I finally decided on the BX22. At the beginning of June I ordered a BX22 and put in my time waiting for delivery. It arrived at the end of June and I've got 18 hours on it so far. Words cannot describe how impressed I am by this little tractor.

Having never owned a tractor before, I was interested in the B7500 initially given its more traditional design. But I thought it would really be overkill for my projects, and the space taken up by the backhoe compared with the BX22 (with the spinning seat) was the last straw. So far I've used the 22 to put in some drainage pipe, flatten a small area in the woods, dig out some huge rocks, and carry rocks from the back to the front. It's a real back saver.

At times I do miss the extra power I could have had with a larger tractor, that may have made moving some of the larger rocks and easier task. It's still hard work moving them with the BX (maybe I'm doing something wrong?) but at least it's possible!

Here's a photo of me about to attempt my first large rock removal. Did I mention I live in the granite state?

Some of the rocks that the BX22 coaxed out from hiding under the lawn

I'm impressed! Those are some dandy boulders. Were you able to lift them with your loader? Or did you move them with the backhoe?

Great looking machine.....was that you who caused the old man to fall?
If you add a snowblower to that rig you'll be set for the winter!

Gary-

I must admit that I made an attempt to lift the first boulder with the loader...no dice. Since the rocks don't just jump into the loader for me, I tried a one two three approach. First, set the rock onto an edge with the hoe. Second, turn around and get the loader in position. Three, get out and roll the rock into the loader. At 260lbs I can usually convince the boulder to roll over into the loader, but not these. I could barely budge the things. Visions of moving them from the back to the front quickly turned into a simple hope that I could position them into a reasonable wall formation with the hoe. The toughest part was that the boulders were mostly smooth and didn't offer alot of purchase for the backhoe's teeth. Of course, staying away from full throttle didn't help either!

I'm ready for the 50hr period to be over...If I just start the tractor and leave it running in the yard, would that be cheating?

Don't try to pin the old man in the mountain on me, I've got a numer of witnesses that'll put me miles away from the crime scene /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I considered the snow blower, but I just couldn't justify the cost over keeping my walk behind. My driveway is pretty short, and besides...it barely even snows here in southern NH /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I moved a couple of small bolders with my bx22. It was a struggle to push one out of the ground and across my yard sometimes the loader would slip and slide up on top of the bolder. I used a lot of finess to move a fiew bolders. With the loader and the back hoe. The loader would not lift the bolders but I could push them a little at a time. Enjoy your bx22. I sure like mine David.

John,
That 50 hours goes by real fast. I am at 53.5 and had to go back to work in Alaska. I will have to do my 50 hour maintenence as soon as I return. I will get all the filters ordered while at work. Then just do it when I get home. I guess it is not that big of a job. I have gone through a whole tube of grease keeping the backhoe and loader lubed. It's all fun.... Gary
