Had a delivery to my house last night about 6:00 pm. While backing out of the driveway, the back wheel of the truck went in to the ditch and no amount of rocking, wood under the wheels, etc. allowed him to drive it out.

I brought the BX22 up and the driver attached a 20 foot chain to the frame and then to the two hooks on my FEL. Shifted to 4 wheel and low speed range and we were able to pull the truck back to the driveway.

Must admit, I had my doubts whether the BX would be able to help and the driver was definitely thinking this was a waste of time. He told me afterwards that once I started pulling with the tractor, all it took was a bit of help from the truck engine to break free and come out of the ditch, he wasn't expecting anything to happen when I started pulling and was more than surprised when the truck started moving forward.

My wife met me as I came in after having watched for the window and her first comment was, "won't you have a story to tell on your tractor board".

Just wanted to share another good experience with the BX22, so far, it's been more useful than I ever expected.

I've heard one story after the other from people who have purchased these little power houses. To bad your wife didn't get a picture for you! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Great story. I wonder how much bigger the BX will grow in the story the driver tells back at the shop. It'll be a Grand L or M series pretty soon.

You'll have to paint a small truck symbol on the hood. A few more and you'll be an "ace".

These little tractors do a lot more than we think they can. Yours is a great example. But if it was me I would caution you by hooking something that heavy on the FEL. With that much power trying to move a lot of weight you could twist that loader pretty easy.

Just thinking here some that is all and I don't know how heavy the delivery truck is.

Me, too! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Dave, with a BX22, I assume there's no drawbar on the back since the backhoe is there?

The hooks I welded on my FEL are in line with the frame as it attaches to the tractor. I attached the chain to one hook, then looped it through the truck frame and back to the other hook forming a "V" with two attachments at the FEL and one at the truck. FEL was kept low to the ground so the center of gravity was down low and as I applied power, it seemed very stable. All four wheels stayed on the ground with equal power, etc. and it really didn't take that much to get the truck rolling. I was careful to try and keep all in alignment but good point about what could have happened.

If I'd thought it through, probably wouldn't have tried it but it worked this time!

I'm glad you had luck with the truck, but I never pull anything unless the chain is connected to the drawbar. The mounting points of the FEL are rather high even though the bucket was low.

What happens when a weld comes loose and that chain and the hook smack the truck driver in the head?

I have had drivers ask me to help them pull out of bad spots and I declined and called a tow truck. Unless you have the right equipment your asking for trouble IMHO.

If you do a nexus lexus search you can find examples of professional tow truck drivers being killed or harmed, and /or hurting others.
This is a very dangerous task.

Its one thing to pull your frends pickup truck out of a ditch and a complete other story to go hooking up to large trucks.

Fred,

You are right. Pulling people out of ditches etc is trouble. However I feel for the original poster and would have done the same thing. It is our nature to help people out. But I also have a friend that helped pull another friend out of the ditch. Well he got his friend out and another car over the hill drunker than a skunk and hit his friend and killed him. Well my firend who did the nice guy thing is going to jail for manslaughter, the drunk got a ticket for drunken driving and the guy that was originally stuck is dead. My friend who is going to jail for manslaughter is being charged because it is illegal to pull another person out of the ditch and none of this would have happened if he obeyed the LAW.

Go Figure.

Thanks for the replies, didn't intend to start a debate about liability, will be more careful posting in the future.
