Hello,

I'm new to this forum and just purchased a '01 BX1800 last weekend. It only has 250 hours and I'm looking forward to start using it.

I've only run the tractor for about 15 minutes due to all the rain, but noticed the temperature gauge didn't move. I'm thinking it should have warmed up enough to register? Anyone ever have a similar problem and are there some common things I can look for to correct? Or is this normal?

Thanks for the help

Just let it idle at 1/4 speed for about 10 minutes and didn't see it move. I've attached a picture of the gauge...

My 2230 had the same gauge. It took about 1/2 hour running to get the needle to move.

Go for a joy ride and see if that doesn't do it. ;)

These BX's doesn't really get hot fast during spring/fall in less then 15 mins at idle. Have you traced the wiring yet on that to see if it loose?

A word of caution- with diesel engines- they like to be run and run long time. If starting it up and shutting it off less then 10 mins can be harmful. Notice the word "can be" and not "will be". If moisture forms in the oil from consedation, it can be detrimental to the engine. I am not saying you did some harm to your engine, but keep in mind diesel engines should be hot when it shuts off. This is why in the winter when I move my BX to load wood and it hasn't warmed up yet, I leave it running. Its better for the diesel engine.

Check the sender wire. It is on top of the motor and easy to knock off.

Also 10 minutes ain't long at all. These are cold-blooded little beasts. In cool weather mine will idle a half hour before the needle comes into operating range.

Thanks for the comments, I found a white wire on top of the engine that had been ripped off so I'm assuming that is the thermostat. I'll re-attach it this weekend and give it a try. :)

I guess these 2230's are cold blooded. I went down and cut my 2acre field this past Thursday (temp was around 65) and run for around an hour or better, and the temp never did come much into the white. Maybe when it gets hotter outside I'll see more movement?
