What do you all have for opinions on these two units? I'm looking for something to mow lawn mostly. Already have a L3010 for the bigger jobs. I have several side hills to deal with and a lot of manuvering around apple trees. I have also looked at the X495 AWS but not sure what your thoughts are on it. I would like to go diesel to save on the stored fuels. I have also given some thought to a MMM on the 3010 but I'm not willing to give up the ground clearence.

On the BX1500 has anyone bought the bagger set up? The dealer tells me that the blower is driven off the rear PTO. I have seen the JD bagger and the blower seems like it is very bulky on the discharge side of the deck.

Any first hand knowledge shared would be great. I know there isn't a right choice only a better choice!!!!!!!

The X series are nice mowing machines but I found them to be very pricey. When I bought my BX2200 a year and a half ago, the JD X595 was more expensive than the BX2200. I think the BX2200 is much more versatile. I have not priced the BX1500 but I suspect that, looking at it from a price performance standpoint, the BX1500 would win hands down.

As far as the Kubota grass catcher goes; I have one and it does a super job. The only negative that I can think of is that it is a bear to install. It is a two-man job to get the upper support attached to the top link bracket (one person can do it but it is a struggle). Someone suggested using a floor jack to assist and that made the job a little easier. Over the winter I plan to design a dolly for the unit to assist with installation and removal.

Go to the Kubota website and read up on the G2460. Its a dedicated mower that can take attachments, 60" MMM, 24 hp
3 cylinder gas or 21 HP diesel, cruise ect..They have a version that shoots the grass out the rear into a collection system w/ a hydraulic dump feature that is supposed to be VERY nice. Local dealer here quotes $7,000. Anyway, just another choice for you.

The Deere X595 seems gawdawful expensive for what you get. I looked at that briefly and then the BX2200 and the Deere 2210 (?). Either is better and cheaper than the X595, in my opinion.

I suspect the X series are trying to capitalize on the recent fad in riding mowers, where are a 'gotta have' in some neighbourhoods.

I went with the BX2200, primarily becuase I already had a L3010, and the controls are similar.

Why do you have to take the bagger off? Is it driven off the rear PTO? Does it take alot away from the side discharge for close cutting? To many questions /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gifsorry but is so much money for a lawn mower!!!!

For just lawn mowing, and if bagging is important, I'll second Rainbow6's idea of the Kubota direct shoot model. It would seem to be the right choice for your application.

I only bag when the grass is high and when the leaves start falling. Here is why I take the bagger off when I am not using it.

You can't use the 3PH while the bagger is attached and it gets in the way when you are using the FEL (especially if you are working in a tight area). Since you have another tractor, neither of these issues would be a problem for you.

It is driven by the PTO.

Side discharge works fine when the bagger is removed.
