Buying Advice BX vs B for 7 acres

If you think you can accomplish your tasks with a B2320, I can tell you that you can buy one for $15K with FEL, delivered. An FRM for mowing will set you back another $900. Just saying. For the size, it is priced right, imho. It's no B2630, but doesn't carry the price either.

I know these prices because I have this equipment, obviously.

Did you mean $1900? I bought my first Rear finish mower several years ago and paid $1250 for it. I wasn't much and kept falling apart on my less than level land. Barlows gave me my $1250 back for it toward the $1750 RFM Landpride that never had a problem and was built like a tank. These are prices from several years ago so that's why I'm thinking a decent RFM would be $1900 by now.

There is an old saying that goes something like don't let the perfect get in the way of the good. It is easy to obsess over trying to figure out the perfect purchase when there is a good one setting there. I know because I do it too a lot.

If the B2630 is still available, I would jump on it at $13500. It wouldn't be the perfect answer to me because I would prefer the suspended mower deck, but it is definitely a really good answer, especially at that price. You could add a backhoe onto it and a box blade and still not be much over $20K. I doubt you would ever want a smaller tractor on that property. Maybe for some of your tasks you will wish it was bigger, but If you go to the L line of tractors, you may find it a bit big for mowing the yard duty.

I have 13 acres with about 9 of that being logged over woodlands / wetlands. I mow the other 3+ as yard. There were grown up logging roads with deep ruts in the woods when I bought the land. I have used both the BX, and B series Kubota's here, and there is a night, and day difference in the woods, and a more subtle differrence in the yard. The B is much better in the woods, more stable, more secure, more clearance, and much more ability, even without the backhoe. In the yard it is somewhat less agile, and probably cuts up the yard more with that outside front tire. (actually the JD's are set up better for this). I would mow with the BX though certainly not with the loader, and backhoe on, and I'm still not sure if a MMM for my B2620 is a good idea. I have a garden tractor I mow with now that weighs about 1100 all up I guess, and I think that is close to ideal for traction, stability, and comfort. Now you never see them mowing a golf course with something like that so that is what that opinion is worth.

Another possibility is to look for two used units, an F series or a ZTR for the lawn, and an older used full sized UT or TLB for the other work. You may be able to swing that within your given budget.

The good deal B2630 is where I live in Virginia. The land is in Arkansas so I have to get it there which is doable but a consideration.

In Arkansas is a B2400 w/FEL for $9700. Even if dealer doesn't come down, I can add the mower and box blade and be under the 13500.

SO........Question to myself is:

More money and newer machine B2630 VS Less money and older machine B2400.

The 2400 looks clean in pics, no rust, but that doesn't mean a lot really.

Guess this is an old delima. Pay less and get less, or pay more and get more. I believe its the degree of more vs less that matters, hence my requesting opinions.

B2630 with FEL and MMM should be around $16 to 16,500, just get kubota insurance and entire tractor will be covered.

Can you even get a MMM for a B2400 any more?

I would still go with the B2360. You are going to have this for a long time and get what you will be happy with for a long time.

I have a good used BX 23 with 54MMM, just down the road in Louisiana, that I could part with, in the $11,500 range, give me a PM, if interested. You can see photos of it in some of my other post around this site. Just got its 600 hr service, complet fluids change out. Working on two Safety switches now, but should have them all going in a few weeks. Two sets of tires, Bar Turfs, and R4's.

My vote is for the "B" but in a perfect world I would consider the "L" series, Just my .02

Get the B. I have a nice BX, but had to buy a larger tractor because the BX does not have the power for working on acerage.

Would go with the B as you need to think down the road. More implements new projects, more cup holders :laughing:You will want to do many more things with your tractor, and having a tractor you can expand on easier, will be less costly than buying the upgrade.

I think I need a bush hog type mower so that I can back to clif edges, pull up over rocks or roots, and take care of larger piles of twigs/limbs. It is sounding like the BX25 or the smallest B might be a better choice.

Ground clearance is the biggest difference between the BX and B. It appears to me that you've described a need for higher ground clearance. Reread the thread if your still looking at a BX over a B for your needs. I have both so I'm not pushing the one I have but the one that meets your needs.
