bx2200
my bx2200 has seemed to have developed a oil leak around the front
of the oil pan. tractor has about 675 hours. its not hydraulic fluid
takes away steering cylinder and hoses seems to drip around the
front bolts. anyone ever had any trouble?

Just curious how do you know it's not hydraulic oil?

BX's are rather famous for leaks on the power steering lines.

new powersteering hoses #1 the smell test #2. if you look up at the
oil pan it seems to be dripping a small amount.

Good answers.

Have never read of an oil pan leak here (in 5 years), so you'll be first.

I would suspect the front main seal. Sorry, cause main seals are PAIN to fix. Although maybe it is possible to get the front one out without yanking the engine.

Do you ever run with your engine oil just a little high? When I got my first truck (35 years ago), I always kept the oil right on the top mark. It blew a rear main seal and I busted a lot of knuckles to fix it. Now I always keep my oil in the middle of the range.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

its usually right on the mark i will pull the engine this winter
may not be too bad.

One thing I would consider doing before I tore into the engine, pick up some leak detector die from your local auto parts store and put it in the engine oil.
Personally I would only want to do this repair once, guess I am getting old.

it should not be too bad once you remove all the metal and plastic.
i too use to enjoy pulling the motor out of my old hot rod heck done
it in one day just to clean and repaint fix a leak etc. that was 20 years ago
and now i believe all engines should be black. my first diesel should
be something different anyway. my last small adventure was a kohlerk 361
hope it turns out better than that.

I have what I believe to be the same type of leak; although so small (ス cup in two years) that I think for now I値l just ignore it! 550 hrs or so?

I've got the same problem, started this spring @ 650 hours. Been living with it until this winter.

It doesn't look like it's a really bad deal to fix it, you don't have to remove the engine. The only thing I haven't confimed yet is whether you need a special tool to pull and reinstall the seal.
