Kubota BX2370
Hey everyone, the snow is finally starting to melt so me and my father are starting to get everything out and ready for spring. I was looking in the owners manual for our 60 belly mower that goes onto our Kubota BX2370 and it says that the "gear box" on the mowing deck it self needs an oil change after the first 50 hours of operation and I was wondering if anybody here could post a video or some pics on how to do it or what gear oil to put back into it. I need to do it soon, the tractor and mower have a little over 200 hours on them and no oil change has been done on the mowing deck. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I do not have the same tractor or deck, but perhaps this will give you an idea if your deck is set up the same way. This is a RCK54 deck on our BX1500. There is a fill plug on top of the gear case, the "check bolt" as Kubota calls it on the side and the drain plug beneath the check bolt. Open the fill plug first, then the check bolt and finally the drain plug. There's no real good way to drain the oil on ours, it makes a mess. Once it drains, reinstall the drain plug. Fill through the fill plug on top until oil runs out of the check bolt. Then replace the check bolt and fill plug and you're good to go. The manual for ours calls for changes every 150 hours after the initial 50 hour change. I just change it every year when I pull the deck off and sharpen or replace the blades and grease everything before the mowing season starts.

The manual for our mower specifies a SAE90wt gear oil for use in the gear case, yours may be different so I would double check. The gear case on ours holds a little less than half a quart of gear oil. Again, yours may be different.

Hopefully this helps.

That's the way to do it. If you look around you should be able to find a small plastic pan/dish that will slide under drain hole and catch the oil. I can't remember just what I used. I refilled mine with synthetic gear oil. Mine is due this year as I change it every 2 years.

I changed the gear box oil on my rear-mounted snow blower and found it to be a pain in the neck, as there was no drain plug, only a fill plug on top. I bought a $7.00 transfer pump at Harbor Freight. In the future, I plan to pump the oil out. This is just a thought for you to consider.

If you have a FEL or Boom Pole you can hang it like this to get a good drain. There still some mess however.

What kind of Oil should I put back into it after I have the old oil drained out of it?

I used Kubota's 80W-90 Gear Lube (GL5). The RCK 60 B-23BX owner's 2009 manual says use SAE 90 API GL5 Gear Oil. Any brand that meets that description should work. Some owners prefer synthetic as seen above.

I took a pick of the transfer pump that I bought.
