Not returning after lowering the 3 pt hitch is normal. With the lever in the lowered position the 3 pt hitch floats, in the middle, it's locked. It should return after raising to the highest position. Sometimes if the rpm's aren't high enough it squeals, but you should not leave the lever in the upper position. Manually return it to the middle after you have raise the 3 pt hitch. At least that's how it works on the BX23. Should be the same for the BX1500

LB,
You have a BX23. You've never had anything other than the backhoe on the back?

There is an auto-return linkage between the lever and the 3PH. Look under the fender for a slender horizontal rod with a pair of adjusting nuts and a small spring on it. The operator's manual shows how to adjust the stop setting.

The lever on the new BX1500 returns to the center neutral position like it's supposed to after lifting or lowering an attachment; But that didn't fix the problem of the lever on the 2003 BX1500 not returning to the center neutral position after lifting or lowering an attachment.

*Correct but I have the 60'' MMM on the BX23 and according to the Bx23 manual the lever is supposed to automatically return to the center neutral position after lifting or lowering the mower.
It does return to center after lifting the mower but it don't return to center after lowering the mower like it's supposed to do.

If you have an implement or the MMM on and lower either one of those and they don't allow the TPH to lower all the way to the bottom of its travel, it will not kick the lever back to the center position, it will only do that if the TPH reaches the end of its travel.

It's working the way it is supposed to. The linkage floats with the lever down(MMM or 3PH both use the same control).

How would it could it "know" when your mower was on the height stop?

When the MMM is lowered the lever stays in that position. When it is raised it will pop back into the neutral position. Lift your seat and follow the linkage from the lever. If there is crud built up in there clean it out. Spray down the linkage with WD-40 and it should start working fine again. Work it back and forth after spraying it to loosen things up.
